Do you have better luck calling in coyotes during the day or at night?

Daytime is by far better for me. It's also more fun because you dont have to mess with a spotlight and you can see all of the action go down. The colder it is outside, the better.

I like day hunting better also, but I don't have night vision either. I've called in quite a few during the morning and evening, but never had any luck during the night

I like hunting at night. It is by far my favorite. I like calling yotes during the day too. There is nothing like seeing those red eyes pop up.

They are very different types of calling. You will do well either way if your know what you are doing. I do a lot of night calling because we can, but I still prefer daytime calling. It is more of a challenge with choosing your stand locations and set up.

I might not have done the night huntign enough but I have more luck during the day. Mostly early and late in the day. Last couple yotes I got though were from some stinky hogs as bait. Quote from another thread. Have called in a few others this uear and 2 bobcats, during the day Pic of the big Yote I got this morning at the same location as the piggies. I left those smelly pigs there last night and hunted that stand this morning. About sunrise 2 yotes came in the largest one stopped where I had left one of the pigs at 60 yards. He would have been a great one for a full body mount weighed 49 lbs and there was no bullet hole to be found. Lets just say he died of a pain in the butt. His companion showed herself at about 200 yards going across a almost dry tank that I can see from the stand. She was 239 yards away when a bullet caught up with her. 2 pigs and 2 yotes not a bad weekend. Big yote with the 6.5 Grendel From the looks of the place a lot of yotes ate well last night as both pigs were gone this morning. Probally several pounds of that yotes weight was pork

what the most effective way to call in coyotes??? with a non expensive call!?? Tally Ho, it's a small open reed call runs about $5 and has fooled tens of thousands of critters. I've called in plenty myself with it.

I prefer evening and late night. Called in 4 last friday, I shot 2 and my buddy missed one. Couldn't get the 4th in close enought. Our first stand was at around 10:30pm and got home around 3am. Was a good night, especially since my 11 year old daughter came with me!

Good to know. We just bought a FoxPro and used it a bit last time out at the ranch.
We tried at night and mid-day, when we weren't deer hunting. We managed to get a couple groups in close the first night but never could see them. During the day we weren't able to get anything to respond or come in.

I use a Foxpro also. Distressed Cottontail is my go to!

I like to call during the day just because it seems to be a bit more challenging. My go to call with the foxpro is the chicken in distress. It works great on yotes and bobcats. We have shot 8 bobcats since thanksgiving weekend and a few yotes too. All during the daylight and all using the chicken in distress.

what the most effective way to call in coyotes??? with a non expensive call!?? There's not really a most effective way. How much the call cost doesn't matter its all personal preference. Just pay attention to wind and if hunting during the day be very still. I've personally had better luck at night.

At night, do you just periodically scan with the spotlight, or do they howl or bark usually when they come in?

The light is your camo. If the light is in there eyes they can't see you. If they start barking they have busted you.

At night I keep the light on and never turn it off. I use a Red lens (personal preference), they typically come in running, once they get pretty close they slow down and bang.

I feel like I am at a much greater disadvantage at night!! They can see just fine but I need the light! My odds are pretty high during daylight hours!! I still need to do a lot off learning before I do any more night hunting!
