I just got my rem 700 BDL in .264. I knew it had a 24" barrel when I put it on layaway and I knew I wanted to have it changed to a 26".

So now I am looking for suggestions on who to use to have it done.

Thanks

Well thanks, but all I have read and everyone I have talked to says for top performance it takes a 26" barrel/

And no thanks to SS. I think they are butt ugly along with synthetic stocks.

This one will be a work in progress, all wood, all blued.

I would use a Lilja stainless barrel fluted and cerakote the color you want, no reason to not have stainless barrel cause you don't like the look when you can cerakote and have the best of both worlds.

Stainless Select Match is a type of barrel offered from Shilen. You're only gonna have 2 choices when it comes to barrel material which is stainless steel or chromemoly steel, either way you'll have to have it blued if thats what you're after.

I would go with Lilja or Hart naysay over Shilen!

I am looking at re barrelling my 700 with a bartlein
GAP uses them and all the research I have done points me to them.

They will do the work for a reasonable fee as well
And their barrels are reasonably priced

In fact, I just sent them an email a few moments ago

Bartlien and Brux have been the top names in competition lately. Also check with whatever gunsmith you're gonna use cause some won't use but certain barrel brands, last one I used would only install Krieger or Pac-nor after bad experiances with Shilen.

OK guys, thanks for the input . You'll have to forgive me ss this is the first gun I have ever planned to have the way I want it.

When I hear SS I think silver. Just looked over the cerakote and call me silly or whatever, but I really favor the gloss blued guns and it looks like the Cerakote is all a matte finish. Havent talked to any one yet so I could be wrong, just what I see.

Here is what I plan. I have access to some Black walnut that came from the ranch where 3 generations of my family grew up. I plan to have a stock made from that.

Along with the barrel and I was thinking about the action work and either a trigger job or after market trigger.

I want it to be a looker as well as a shooter, I have to pay for it a stage at a time and I have plenty of time to get it all done.

Something I have wanted a long time.

Go aftermarket on the trigger a lot more adjustability there than with a polished factory trigger.

I know and I appreciate it. Yall have to understand, this is all new territory for me and I imagine mu lack of education on some of it really shows.

I want the end result to be both a good shooting and eye appealing rifle with old school looks.

I would go another route than old school bluing if it were mine, and the stainless barrel is the only way to go IMHO if u are going to sink the money into one.

x2, the route your taking doesn't worth all the extra money.

Run some of those "Extenze" pills down the tube and see if you can't get those highly desired extra 2 inches the "Safe, Effective and Natural" way.

I can relate to this...if you're gonna have a walnut stock it just looks a lot better with blued steel. I prefer blue 'n' walnut for sure, but I've seen some pretty handsome stainless and synthetic guns. On the other hand, it sucks when you put a big ugly gouge on the stock of a sexy little Model 70 Featherweight. It's all almost like tryin' to have your cake and eat it too.
