All summer and the first part of the fall I had TONS of pics of deer on my place, at the feeder, walking trails, everywhere. Most of the pics were at night, but they were there. I have hunted one day each weekend sense rifle season opened and the numbers have dropped off steadily week to week, until now I only have one little forky coming in some evenings. I had ten or more young 8's, one or two very mature 8's, a couple of small 10's, and a ton of spikes and forkies...all gone. I haven't had many does at all this year. I originally blamed the rut, seeing as there haven't been many does. I figured they all went to where the ladies are. But now, I'm not sure. I know that this year is different because of the drought, but there is water in the tanks now. I'm sick of feeding pigs and coons hoping the deer will come back. What do you guys think?
Thanks!!!
Matt

I have seen pretty much the same at our place. Seeing mostly young bucks and the numbers seem to be way down also.

We have gotten decent moisture over the past month and there has been a lot of new forage growth so the deer aren't hitting the feeders as hard. Winter wheat is coming up good all around too so the deer will be spread out.

The acorns started dropping on our place about 4 weeks ago and there not hitting the feeders as hard now. We had a good acorn crop this year believe it or not. We have springs all over our place thats still running. The drought didnt affect us at all.

Nope. It was right around the corner, though. I didn't know anything about it until I left on Sunday. Have there been any others? GW told me in Sept. that he arrested come kids for setting fires. I must be dense, because the fire never dawned on me as the reason for the deer leaving. That could be it.
Thanks!!
Matt

we have corn piling up beneath our feeder now. Have seen one young spike buck and that's about it.

What has happened is that your neighboors have finally put up feeders. The deer have left your land because of these new feeder because its natural for them to find new food sources.

I've been on leases that feed year round, and I had this same exact experience. Soon as your neighboors put up feeders, the deer go on their land.

I now do not feed year round. I put up feeders two weeks before deer season and I see a ton more deer.

Deer will pass the corn to get to the acorns, they will be back on the corn when the acorns sour. When gun season starts you have to realize that everyone around your land is hunting with guns also. This will make the deer leave the areas if too much pressure is put on the deer.
