I d not know much about snows. I was wondering about color. I saw 2 last week. The first I have ever seen since I started hunting here in 07. There was a high flier ( all white)that went over the lake and never gave us a look. The other landed 100yrds behind our blind. It was dark with a white head and neck. At first it didn't click that it was even a goose. We kept watching it wondering what it was. Eventually it clicked and I remembered there were some light geese with different colors. I crawled within 40yrds before he got jumpy. I shot 3 3" #4 experts at him and he flew away unphased. Are they the same species. Are they common in centex?

blue phase snow, same species. they are common in Texas, and I've seen them winter in centex, but most often they are just passing through to get to the coastal prairie or late in season headed back north.

There's your answer.^^^

Good ol eagle heads, they're my favorite to shoot. Plenty of them in the rice fields.

I haven't ever seen em here before. I thought it was pretty cool. Wish I coulda dropped that one. It woulda been my first. Saw a couple hundred Sandhills too. This is the first year I have seen those close enough to shoot too. They were not nearly as tolerant as the goose. They flew off when I got within 150yrds.

They are not too common around the lakes here...but there are normally quite of few in the fields of east bell county. All private stuff though.

A few years ago I was out with Garrett hunting a lake and we saw a ton of pelicans. From up high they can look like snow geese but the thing about snow geese is they are very vocal and so if you think you see some but don't hear them then it might be a pelican. We got back to the ramp and asked some other guys we didnt know how they did....not well but then they asked if we saw all the snow geese...I held back my laugh and just said no...but I knew they were talking about teh pelicans.

Yeah ive seen pelicans flying over the lake too but these were snows for sure. Ive shot Canada's from the layouts in the fields back in illinois but we never saw snows on our property. I wish there was some local places nearby for geese.
I move to Georgia in the spring. This might be my last good year to shoot local waterfowl for a few years. I will probably have to take leave and travel from Georgia back to Illinois during waterfowl season for any decent action.

Snow geese can come in White, Blue or Interphase:

Young Snow geese have a grayish tint which they loose as they mature. Young Blue Geese are solid and get the white head as they mature.

Ross geese look like snows but are smaller:
