I just got a new Tikka 223 Varmint on order. I know nothing about Tikkas so I need some knowledge please.
Do they have the same type of base and ring system that pretty much any other rifle does? Or is it like the Rugers where u can mount the rings directly to the reciever? Are bases for the varmint edition the same as the T3 bases, assuming it requires a base? Any good suggestions on a one piece base?

If you ordered a NEW Tikka, it should come with rings. If they are the wrong size or you just don't like them ( they are aluminum), Leupold offers two piece bases.

Sorry rwh, did t click on all your links.
So if I get the Warne Rings that are specific for Tikkas, then I do NOT need a base. Someone please confirm that statement.

I like Warne's for Tikkas I used these on my 308, but used the factory rings on my 270 and haven't had any problems yet.

Another vote for the Talley lightweights. One thing to be mindful of, Talley's ring heights are a little higher than most. The mediums should be plenty high for up to 50mm with plenty of barrel clearance. Good choice on your rifle.

Seemed like 40mm had a full cm of space under it.

Well I at least got the scope ordered. I got a Nikon Monarch 6-24x50 on Amazon for $508! Couldn't pass up on such a good deal.
So I plan on using the rings that come with the gun. I am assuming that some will come with it. Otherwise I think I'll go with the Warne rings that mount directly to the receiver. I guess I would have to see it but I'm not sure why anyone would do a base and ring system if the option to mount rings directly to the receiver. The engineer in me sa cheaper and less parts is better.

I'd do some research on the factory rings. Alot of people swear them off. Once you handle them you'll feel how cheap they are. Personally, if I were in your shoes I'd go with the DNZ Reaper mount. It's one piece, built solid, and looks great.

Tally lightweights and thank me later Winner! This is what I would suggest for the Tikka T3. Great rifle by the way.

SAKO's grooved receiver is tapered so the rings cannot slip forward under recoil plus a cutout.
TIKKA's grooved receiver is straight cut and does have the cutout to keep from sliding forward.
I know 243 Win is not a heavy recoiling round, but I have had it both ways now in 9 years now.
