My BIL purchased one a few weeks back at Academy. It is his first centerfire rifle. It seems to be the opinion of THF that this gun is junk. I sighted it in for him and shot a 3/4" three shot group at 100 yds with it with $14 dollar ammo (.270). I have not formed an opinion on it, so tell me THF why dose everyone seem to dislike this gun so much?

My BIL bought one, first time out the bolt handle came off after the first shot. Sent back to Remington.
Fast forward to the replacement first shot fired bolt locked up so sent back to Remington.

There you have the litte experience I have which doesn't promote any confidence in the product.

The one I shot had about a 7lb trigger pull that'd creep about 1/4" before it'd finally go off. The blue was nonexistant. If it works for him then that's all that matters, if it's going to get thrown, dropped, beaten, scratched and jammed into a truck then it's the perfect rifle to destroy.

Couldn't believe how well it shot with the cheap stuff..
Bolt is kinda a PITA to cycle..

Everything about it's looks is crap.. Cheapo scope..

You just can't beat it for 340 bucks out of the box.. It will kill deer.. On a budget.. I will get it done

isn't it funny how everyone nowadays can manage less than 1" groups with any rifle, regardless of make and model.

i read that everyone gets sub MOA accuracy outta their guns, but when reviews are done by major magizines, the best groups outta the higher dollar rigs avg. around an inch and a half.

I'd like to see a 770 get a 3/4" group

Me too! Mine shoots a little less than 2" groups at 100yds. But that's ok because I can't see much further with the scope that came on it... rofl

No, I'm not kidding.

Rifles are usually luck of the draw on OTB accuracy.. Of the ones I've shot and tried to get loads worked up for the 770 was producing a whole lot of lemons. And they look and feel like somewhat cheap.

My son bought one in 7mm Rem. Mag. The accuracy is OK, but the trigger and bolt are very rough and the trigger felt pretty heavy. As others have stated, the overall fit and finish just wasn't that good. For that price range, I would much prefer a Marlin XL7. A friend has one, and it just seemed better from stem to stern.

Post a picture. But I still will doubt you. Is that a 3 shot group? 5? 1?

I can't deny it looks and feels very cheap. I have a Savage 110 .270 that is cheap, but it is one of the most accurate rifles I own. I guess what I am saying is you don't have to drop a grand on a rifel, send it off and sink another 500 into it on a trigger and squaring the bolt and a new stock, and put a 2k dollar scope on it to get it to shoot under an inch. I was just intrested in seeing if people actually had experence with it or it they bash it just because it is a cheap.

I think I still have the target in the back of the truck..

Almost embarrassed to show it.. I was sighting in the new 7 mag and had it all over the place.. Trying to save money..

I watched the ol man do it.. 4 shots.. On a knee off the tailgate of my Ford.. The bolt cycles like poop

I admit.. It's a POS.. I didn't shoot it.. The ol man is a good shot, but has only shot the rifle once before.. He wasn't expecting it..

The action feels like the raceways are made out of chewed bubble gum with sand poured on top.

It is the new version of the 710 they are a fairly accurate gun, but they are cheaply built, I can't speak for sure on the 770's but the 710 yes they did have a plastic sleeve in the bolt. I shaved some of it down to make the bolt smoother but I hated the thought of my bolt having a plastic sleeve it liked to bind. Its a good gun if your going to beat it up and not take care of it. If you take care of your guns though its not worth it though.
