They are called the RIBEYE of the sky for a reason. I have been seeing quite a few this year also.

They are an amazing bird to hunt. Probably near the top of my list. We went with "dusty" from "Longneck Outfitters" near lubbock late january and shot half a limit of canadas, and our 5 man limit of cranes!!

Will be doing it again this season!!

-Matt

EDIT: They taste great too!!

Yo graham I hunt em outside of newcastle off the brazos and we got about 5000 wintering on a neighbors farmland. I have decoys and layout blinds and if you dont have that just pattern the birds and lineup on fence posts. If you ever want to hunt them pm me and wr can put a hunt together at my place or yours. My name is Sam. I will ve hunting them this weekend in newcastle sunday morning. Ducks first though on saturday morning since it's supposed to be cloudy and winds at twenty out of the northwest.

Not sure how ya'll are hunting the cranes, (some hunt over canadas, some over SH Crane Dekes only)

But I've got a couple dozen Big Foot Canadas, and some layout blinds, I'm game anytime.

Alright we all need to coordinate this one and get a big group together and get a hunt planned. I have three layout blinds and about 50 sillo-sox and 5 full body crane decoys and a few canadian dekes would work mixed in as well so mnsherick for sure bring some if we can get a trip planned. Also, aggieduck, im in my final semester of civil engineering at texas a&m....and it only took me six years. That last game against tu was tough to watch. I think 5 or 6 guys would be a good group.

Baller Caller, my uncle lives in the Newcastle area and I have hunted up there a little...do the cranes decoy very well to those sillo socks??? I have hunted them with limited success down on the Brazos. I have layout blinds but have thought it would be difficult to hide in a wheat field even with a layout??
