I have something against predator hunting in general. I don't have a need to shoot something just to kill it.

I hear you but I am overrun with coyotes on my place and don't shoot them "just to kill" them. I shoot them to try to help maintain some balance between them and my deer/small animals. Shoot hogs for a slightly different reason-they are just non-native vermin competing with native animals-no different than a rat or fire ant in my eyes.

Now bobcats, foxes, cougars I can certainly see killing them or not being a closer call.I have killed one bobcat and one fox and will not ever kill any more. But I don't hold it against anyone who feels differently than I do.

You Texans do know that Cougars prefer mature Whitetail bucks for some reason, right? Something to think about.

They are deer killing machines. Often only eating a part of their kill and then hunt again. Friend of mine worked on a deer study in central California. Deer numbers were steadily dropping so they radio collared 10 fawns (black tails), 8 were confirmed killed by mt lion and one got hit by a car.

when was the last time someone was attacked by one???
not that many of them, they aren't going to deplete the deer population.why shoot it?
of course if it were a nuisance animal and creating a eminent danger then by all means take it out.
as any other predator, they normally take out the injured, sick,or older animals when they feed.

I like to kill things. Deer, coyotes, pigs. Doesn't matter.

Shoot him. We raise goats, and we lose 3-5 goats every 6 months or so to a big cat. Our livestock guard dogs do a great job of protecting, but not against big cats.

dd28-I will just just assume that comment is from ignorance which can be cured by education on predator damage and control. You are certainly entitled to your opinion. Throwing stones at other hunters is counter productive.

I don't. I think it's kind of immature to just kill for the sake of it. I'm from the hunt for the satisfaction and challenge of obtaining sustenance for myself or others less fortunate school of thought. This as opposed going to the grocery store.

That comment is from a life experience I had when I was younger that changed my views on killing.

If you could show me evidence that all predator hunting is done out of necessity with no pleasure involved at all I'd change my mind. That's why I said "in general".

Never mind. There is a need, and yes, I enjoy the challenge of hunting predators.

You don't have to agree, but you also don't need to go around, on a hunting message board of all places, branding hunters that don't share your personal views as mindless killers.

Adios......

I don't think there's anything wrong with having my view as long as I'm not trying to screw all of us hunters over.

OK...one more post. I said you are certainly entitled to your "view", just don't go around calling folks who don't agree with you "killers".

DD, the reason you hunt that you posted.

Get out of the office and unwind. To be honest killing is down the list so much so that I've curtailed a lot of types of game I go after because it just doesn't sit right with me.

I also noticed that you have several posts supporting gun control measures.

We will probably not agree on much and need to just agree to disagree, just cut out the holier than thou nonsense and quit calling folks that don't hunt your way killers.

Definitely don't support any more gun control measures. In fact I'd like to see a lot of them done away with.

And that's a big 10-4 negative on curtailing my views. If you took the time to ask me why I feel the way I do, you'd be less apt to insult.

DD I can't see how Bob insulted you, I see you insulting him and many other varmint hunters. Bob was just saying to agree to disagree and move on. No reason for you to insult an entire group of hunters because of some traumatic experience you had as a youngster.

I think "holier than thou" falls under insult. I can understand some people's inability to not see my point of view through no fault of their own. My dad doesn't like to hunt because of his experience and Vietnam and I used to not understand it. I do now.

the folks who live in the suburbs and go to the lease a handful of times a year don't understand about predator control. as far as some folks see it, a bobcat, coyote or mountain lion is just out there minding thier own business.

we shoot coyotes, snare them, poison them, etc. I don't want a coyote on our place period. Bobcats, sometimes I shoot them, sometimes i don't(when deer hunting) but am not opposed to taking a shot when the opportunity presents itself. they are neat to watch, i've enjoyed watching a bobcat chase quail around one afternoon, but its still a predator. and there is alot more running around in the woods that you think.

We had a thrice confirmed mountian lion sighting on our ranch and our neighbors. Can't begin to describe the worry on what he was going to our deer herds. a big cat is a serious predator with a tremdous range, who can negatively impact deer and livestock herds, then disaappear from the area.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I'm with you on this one. In my county and because of the drought a lot of people are raising goats instead of cattle. A big male that has taken a hankering to goat meat means a source of income down the drain. Besides if they are not hunted and removed you'll get the same kind of cats they have in California that think people are good to eat.
