I am looking for a 1911. Both the Taurus and Springfield are approximately the same price. Does anyone have any positives or negatives on either? Thanks.

I have both. The Springfield has never given me problem, but the Taurus has been back three times for the firing pin breaking. Personaly I will never buy another Taurus because of this and the fact that it takes 3-5 weeks to get your gun back.

I do not have either brand but you do not here bad things about springfield, I would save up the money for a kimber like I did

I can't say enough about my Kimber. It is more expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Tomball Pawn usually has great prices on Kimber could have saved a decent amount of cash if I went there.

My springfield has problems from the beginning and all i have is a short stick in a gun fight which isn't a very god feeling.

Out of curiosity, was it extraction problems???

Send it back to them for repair, then, that is NOT normal.

I havn't sent it back to springfield yet but i was told that they would take it to the range and shoot it,if it doesn't malfunction it would be returned to me without taking it apart or any other actions done to it.Not a very comfortable feeling to me.

I am nost sure if it was extracting the spent casing John, you didn't say. I had one a few years back. I sent it back 3 different times. The last time the springs and extractor were replaced, still didn't work worth a crap. I traded it off at a gun show. Hope you have better luck

I vote get a GLOCK and never have any issues. I own a Kimber Ten 2 and a few GLOCKS. I trust my GLOCKS more than any 1911 platform 10 fold. Just my 2

7mag,it was what i call a stovepipe but maybe just a jam since the cases arnt sticking up.The first few times it happened i wasn't really concerned but i called springfield and they said no problem just keep shooting it.I also saw where the empty cases were landing, always to the right but sometimes behind me as well as in front of me but still to the right. The last few times it has thrown a couple cases to my left front and just over my head.I have looked at the extractor and to me it should of been tossed instead of installed.I was considering having one installed instead of sending it back but i think they need to fix it.One of my major concerns is a LEO buying one and had to depend on it to save his life and i would hate to be put in his position.

Ijust got rid of my Springfield 1911A1. I hated to get rid of it, but it's way too large for me to conceal so I opted for an XD subcompact. I never had any problems with mine. The problem with the 1911 for me was customizing it. There are endless possibilities for tweaking the 1911. Wasn't really a problem to me, but my wife was ticked when she saw how much I had spent on it.

Oh no! You let your wife see how much you spent on a toy!? Saw a quote once that we should all live by.. went something like 'My fear is if something happens to me my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I spent on them instead of what they are worth'...

Have been shooting a Springfield 1911 since '92. Thousands of rounds through it in IPSC shoots. The only problems I had were magazine related. I once bought a bunch of surplus mags that werent feeding right and would cause jams. Replaced them with Wilson mags... problem solved.
