My GSP had his tail cropped and dew claws removed before I got him. He is now 6 months old, and hair has not fully grown in on the tip of his tail. The skin is still hard and rough. Should I try lotion or just wait?

Haha nothing to worry about. I used to mess with my dog when he had that. It will grow around it and cover it up. If I pull back his hair on the tip of his tail, it still looks dry. No worries.

ok so i actually had this same problem with my boykin... i did not even notice it for awhile. however, once i did i noticed it would get dry/crack/and bleed sometimes. that being said... i would rub vitamin E oil on it at night and in the morning. when he went off to training i worries about it getting infected but there was no issue and his hair (like the person above stated) has grown over it and he does not have any issues with it. i would not worry about it to much unless he cuts it or it starts to bleed b/c it is so cracked and dry... i ams ure others will have different advice but that is just my two cents... hope it helps out!

I have Vizslas and have had GSPs in the past. Each Vet had his / her own way of docking the tails (clamp & twist, clamp & cut, etc). All of them have had their tails look like that until they get older. My 14 m.o. male vizsla has just started to have hair grow out over the docked area.
