Well 8 days and a wake up the unoffical Holiday in Pennsylvania starts. The opening of Deer season. This year they are estimating that 750,00 hunters will be in the woods this year. All wearing orange coats and hats. What a glorious day it will be. Deer will be running all over the place. 2nd day its as if the well went dry. You will be lucky to see a lot of Deer. It is so popular that the schools are offically closed that day. Man I can't wait. It is the longest 8 days of my life.

I just worked up there for a month after the hurricane and saw some good deer. Dang fawns with spots that looked like axis does. Good luck, nice country.

If you add all the different weapon seasons we have a pretty long season. Archery, Muzzleloader, youth, Rifle, Seniors, archery again, Flintlock, Special regulations. Starts in September and over in January. I hunt the week long Muzzleloader and the two week Rifle. Pretty cheap hunting to put food on the table.

How do you hunt up there? Is it mostly public land or do most people go private like here in TX?

It's a mixture of both. We have State Game lands, Public Parks and Private farms. I hunt a park called Raccoon State Park. The hill I hunt I am alone except for a Gentleman that brings his youg sons. Bascially the first day you find a tree. Wait on Deer to run through. Sounds like World World 3 going on. Pretty awsome!!

Grew up hunting near Raccoon State Park and always had deer running around. Later ended up going to Gods Country (Potter County) on the PA/NY line out of an old farmhouse. It was awesome. Brother in-law now has 225 acres he manages for deer only and he is surrounded by nothing but corn fields. These deer get huge and now with the AR they have, they will get even bigge.

RMCFACE, I will shoot one for you. So tell me, do you prefer Deer hunting in Texas over PA? Just wondering how they do it there. Thanks.

So late in my reply...sorry....I actually prefer the colder weather of PA and the late season stalk and hunt (no feeders allowed at any time)

Only two week rifle season. I lived up there for two years designing pipelines in southwest Pa. I got to hunt in washington county on my landlords place and greene county on a landowners place. I saw tons of deer and enjoyed my first ever hunt in a blizzard. Our group killed a 141 class deer in washington county in alittle town called hickory. It is really cool because there are vechicles parked all over the place where people just park on the road and walk out in the woods to hunt. It is also a very beautiful state.

I cut my teeth deer hunting in PA. Beautiful country, big bodied deer but bucks have small racks. I remember back then it was very common to and bragged about for shooting a 6 point. The venison tastes much gamier but I actually prefered it. There is so much pressure it's unbelievable. It's not rare to have orange dots every couple hundred hards. Made it difficult seeing deer but it's what I grew up on and I loved it. I remember taking my rifle to school so I could hunt before and after. I also took my hunter ed course in school and they did close down for opening day. I thought season was way earlier?

I lived and hunted in Alleghany Co. Got my first deer there! But I like Texas hunting better!

Lived in Allegheny county for 7 years. I loved hunting in Forest county in the mountains. I hunted raccon creek for a couple years also. Moved back to Texas in December, I cant stand snow. lol
