I guess this crosses a section or two but here goes: I've got a spot on the lease that's a little to close to the highway and to thick with cover for me to be use my 7 mag comfortably and to its potential.
My second option is my 3.5 chambered Benelli. I've been looking at chokes, barrels (which would probably get here near the end of deer season), buckshot and slugs.
Anyone have any suggestions for what would work best. My farthest shot would probably be 65 yards. I’ve not tried any of the foster style slugs with a smooth bore and before purchasing a ton, I was hoping to lean on some experience.
Thanks.

Buckshot and pattern it for shorter distances.
Forester Slug in a smooth bore with IC choketube for longer distances and accuracy. Lots of penetration, practice also.
Will it shoot heavy 3" loads or 3.5" only?

I'd strongly consider Tri-Ball by The Dixie Slug Company. Three 60 caliber tungsten/lead alloy balls that do very well with full choke. It will get you the range you need.

If your furthest shot will be 65 yards, why not use a smaller rifle? Maybe a 30-30? I just can't see what could be gained from using a shotgun slug.

Thanks for the info.
I have the Benelli Super Nova which shoots everything as for as loads go.
I don't have the money to invest in a 30/30 this season (just bought the shotgun) but will be looking for something like that in the next year or so.
After posting this, I went out and patterned with several different shells. It appears at 30-40 yards with a modified choke I'm getting the best patterns with buckshot 00 buckshot. I wasn't able to pattern further than that today.
I shot a couple of Remington 3" rifled slug and got them close together at 40 yards but it's 6 inches low on target.
I may have to upgrade sites.
Who carries tri-balls?

Tri-ball is produced by a company called Dixie Slugs and you can google up their web site. You can order from there. It's really specatular stuff and if you add a red dot shotgun sight on the Benelli it will give you the range you want especially is you use a full or turkey choke. I've only familiar with the 3 inch variety but they also make a 3.5 inch too.
