A 22 will work it you hit it right between the eyes.  Yes a 30-30 is plenty, they are hogs not elephants..if your hitting it the shield you need to get to the range and learn how to shoot.

If I can kill them almost every weekend with arrows a .17, 22, 22mag, 30-30,223, 243, you name it will put them down too.
