Each year, I like to do a memorable hunt of some sort for my birthday, which is December 11th. This year, I'm looking to go for Sandhill Crane (either 12/10 or 11.) Who would y'all recommend? I don't mind traveling anywhere in state. Just want a great hunt.

Ironspikelabs. Check out www.highflyingoutfitters.com They are out of Dumas, Texas. Heard only good things about them. Planning on hunting with them one day. I will be crane hunting near Plainview, Texas around Dec. 4 & 5...hoping there are some birds up there.

dont worry, the cranes are in the pandhandle and will get more numerous as we get more fronts
-If I buy any more waterfowl hunting stuff this year I'll be eating cat food and crackers for dinner.

So, since the date is what it is, I'm looking for outfitters that can get me on some cranes the second weekend in December. I'll travel to them to get a nice hunt, unless you're saying there aren't huntable numbers in the panhandle in early December. I thought there were?

Make sure You don't have ANYTHING that shine's or can glare ! Sand Hill Crane have great eye sight and can pick out any shine or movement. They sound like a twin engine plane crashing when they hit the ground ! There awesome. There is alot of public land in the Panhandle starting at Painview Tx. You can catch'em bunny hoping grain field's and if Ya can scout and get up wind of them when there taking off You can BUST the heck out of them. BB or T shot works great. Good luck.
You Don't Have A PIG Problem If Ya Want to Charge $200.00

Hunted the Sandhill Crane for the 1st time last year. Wow! Like shooting B-52 planes out of the sky. 4 man limit within 1 hour. We hunted near Lockney.
No bad days hunting

If I was closer and had the time to get familiar with the places and scout it out, that'd be cool, but I know I'll prolly strike out if I try to go it alone... especially first time out for 'em. I figure I'll just pony up the bucks and pay for a party. But in the future, might be a great road trip with friends or to hook up with folk up there that know the lay of the land. I'll return the favor down here!

Outfitter, or just got together with some buddies? Just got together with some friends who live up in Amarillo. I had never hunted Sandhill Crane before. It was crazy how many were out there in the field that day.

I had to cancel duck hunting today to deal with emergency at home and I'm hearing from folks that they're swattin 'em like crazy today! Figures.
