Heading to the coast for spring break and need to know how the BBQ is on 77. I know there are some places in the LaGrange/Shulenburg area but have never stopped in. Any advice would be appreciated.

Smokehouse on Hwy 82 up in Lindsay is one of my favorite. Their sausage bad a**. If their food dont suit you go next door to Dieter Bros, and try them. Very good as well.

Ate at the Mesquite Pit in Mineral Wells last night. Had the ribs and they were good. Had the cowboy beans and potato salad for sides. The beans we good and spicy, and the potato salad was just average. They have a 2 for 20 Tuesday special. Two meals, and 4 beers or margriatas for $20.00. The meal selections were CF Steak, grilled chicken breast, grilled pork chop and something else I cant recall.

Another fan of the Smokehouse. Better wear some loose fitting pants cause their portions are huge. Haven't been to Dieter Bros.

Thanks for bringing that to light. I wouldn't have seen that unless you had pointed it out.

I have had all the Coopers. Llano if I remember correctly is the only one that is still owned by the original family. The one in Junction is owned by a distant relatives of mine. Everytime I go to my ranch I make a point in going to eat there. The meats are good, but I have always thought they lacked in sides for people like me who like fried okra or green beans with my BBQ. That's just me being picky though. The Mason Coopers is where I ate at most of my childhood since my Grandparents lived in Mason so most big family dinners included something from Coopers. The Llano one I have only eaten at once back when I used to take HWY 29 from I35 to get to Mason, but I cant remember for sure how good it was.

For a major chain I have to admit I like Dickeys alot. They fit more into the all around meal that I mentioned before.

I tried Black's at Lockhart this weekend, it was decent, but pretty pricey. For two people it was like 26 and change. Don't go to Prasek's Hillje smokehouse for the BBQ. They get it frozen from Brenham wholesale with there name already on it. They stick it in the oven and warm it up!! This is the place on highway 59 between Houston and Victoria. They have some very good jerky though. I wanted to die laughing when Texas Monthly had a big article about thier good BBQ a few years ago. What a joke!!

I am not an expert judge or critic, but do love to eat bbq. I just know what I like. Would rather make the bbbq myself actually, but don't always have the time for it.

I am actually from Taylor and usually frequent these places. Have had other places that are great bbq places but consistently aren't as good as these, imo.

You went there and ate the wrong thing! They are famous for sausage and smoked meats (jerky). BBQ is not their forte.

Not to be arse. The Coopers in Junction sucks, hands down. We went there a couple years ago in route to SA. They had cabrito on the grill and I love that, if it is cooked correctly. Shoe leather was more tender then this crap. It was awful and by far the worst BBQ we ever had. My girls ordered brisket and chicken. Dry dry and dry. Too long on the pit and not selling I guess. Yeah the side deals there also suck. If I remember correctly they even charge one for the bread, seriously. I should have stayed with ole reliable Lums BBQ across the overpass. Lesson learned. The Coppers in Mason and Llano are good and no comparison to the kin folk in Junction, Thank God.

Dickeys, went there once, when they opened it here in Midland. As stated once, as that was enough. That doesn't rank as BBQ, in my opion.
