So the year before we get on are new lease the rancher pushed all the cedar trees up into piles prolly 50 to 60 piles on 160 acres there was a lot of cedars Graham Tx area big arse brush piles all around our feeders and stands over the whole place well the rancher/ land owner set them on fire during the week Really!!! No phone call or nothing get out here last night and the place is basically torched he is in the cattle and hunting lease business and has places and hunters all over so he knows that it was the second week of deer season never had any problems with him he is a pretty straight up guy me and a buddy paid him a thousand a gun to hunt here fixed up the old ranch for him and this happens he could have waited till after deer season sorry for ranting what I am asking is some opinions on how to handle this or how long do you think all this burning will affect the hunting

Try and get your money back. Make sure your next lease agreement covers things like that.

It shouldn't hurt your hunting and when the green comes out in a couple weeks the deer will love it. Keep hunting the place. The land owner still has to make money off his place and hunting leases don't pay all the exspences.

Fire won't effect your hunting for the long run. It just improved your visibilty though. Clearing the cedar will pay off in the future also.

Dont feel bad, during youth weekend we had a seismic survey team all over our place..no advance warning. If you know anything about those kind of surveys they are VERY intrusive. Lots of heavy equipment, noise and personnel everywhere. They are gone for now, deer are back.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

Ranchers haven't been able to burn all year due to the drought. Some counties have allowed a temporary window to burn due to recent rains.
Given the struggles of Texas ranchers due to drought and fires this past year, I'm sure they are all doing all they can to make certain that they can best prepare for what many believe will be an extended drought.
Hunting lease income is gravy, but ranching income is the meat and potatoes for these folks.
Yeah, your hunting may be worse for a week or so, but it will greatly improve long-term.
Just try to remember the "big picture" in these situations.

Details are always better than guessing what or why something happened. Glad you talked and got the situation worked out.

Our land owner has done the same thing over the years. However he just leaves the dead cedars laying vs. burning them. I view it as a long term improvement. The timing on this incident could have been better. Perhaps there is a good reason.

Dont worry, it will be ok. They lifted our burn ban so we could get some stuff done in case it is anotheer dry winter. I burned several piles myself recently.

Hell anytime Any rancher is clearing and burning cedar bushes off a ranch it's a good thing. Baker Most times than not a rancher is at the mercy of the schedule of the guy doing the clearing and he can't usually pick a date that is convienient for everyone. Deer love a pasture that has been recently burned and when all the new growth appears, you'll see what I'm talking about.
Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.
