I've never owned a 270, but they're super popular for a good reason. I've had a 25-06 and loved it, I took many deer with it. I like different calibers, so I sold my 25-06 and bought a Rem 260.. I handload 120 gr bullets right at 3K fps, I'm looking forward to trying it out on a deer this season.

I love the 25-06, 270 never did anything for me
Had both in Sakos
Both worked well of course

I recently got a Nosler in 280 Ackley improved
I REALLY like the round, it is flatter and less wind drift out to 500 yard than either the 25-06 or 270

The Noaler Trophy Grade rifle is every bit as nice of a gun as a Sako and similar price range

It is a surprisingly soft shooting rifle, especially for a 6.75 lb rifle
One hole 100 yard groups and 2" at 500 yards with the Nosler 140g Accubond load.

I got it to test as I was curious about it, I ended up buying it

If its a kill all things in Texas rifle the quarter bore gets my vote. If you plan on sneaking across the border for elk I'd be more inclined to go with the 270.
