270 if it is just between them but the 30/06 is IMO the best all around gun.

Since you already have a 7-08 and an 300wsm I'd get a .257 Wby. IMO it's moe betta than either the .25-06 or .270.

Good call Rustler and probably route I'd go but 270 ammo is so readily available and popular you can almost buy it at 7-11 and if you ever decide to sell or trade you wouldn't have a problem.

Normally I would say the .270, which i own two of, but with your other rifles, I would go 25-06. I loved the one I owned many moons ago a Remington BDL Mtn. rifle but it was stolen.
I would certainly listen to Rustler with the .257 Wby mag. I do not know the ballistics on that but would be worth a look.
Definitely would have more bullet options in the 06

You definitely have a point on ammo, to me some things are worth a little extra effort. I hand load for mine so I have no problem with ammo availability.

I'm a little biased, but I also pick the .270!! Can't beat it!!

For Panhandle deer you might want to think about a .257 Wby as previously mentioned. You'd probably appreciate the extra Umphhhhh........

25-06 I've always liked that caliber. I know .270 is a awesome round but everybody I know shoots one and I like to be a little different. I shoot a .257 roberts and love it. My next gun will be a 25-06. And my dream gun that I hope to get some day would be a .257 wby.

I prefer the 25-06. I have rifles in both 270 and 25-06, and that 270 just sits in the safe. Either one would be a fine choice.

Take a coin and flip it and buy the winner. You can't go wrong with either.

This discussion could go own forever (and has before). Like Lonestar Cobra, I own both and consistently use the Ruger 77 in 25-06 just because I like the gun itself. On the practical side, you could argue resale or availability of ammo in favor of the .270. Since you reload and ammo isn't an issue, I would go with the 25-06 and if you held either one to my head, I probably couldn't give you a good, logical reason. Does that help? :-)

257 mag is a tack driver. If you can put up with the price of ammo that is what I would get. I own and couple of 30-06s so for me it would be the 25-06. Ammo is a little higher than the 270 and not as readily available. I do not care about availability. I learned long ago not to buy ammo at Joe's hardware in some little podunk town.

I have a 25-06 and i prefer it. I shot a 270 and a 7mm mag for years and both do the job well. The 25 however is just a pleasure to shoot. Little to no recoil, flat shooting and with 117 grain Federals or Sierra Gameking bullets over 4831 if you reload, it kills just a s quick as the 7mm mag did. I have taken deer and hogs from 300 yds to 20 ft with it with no problems..
