I don't every time out, but plan to this Saturday. With the rut becoming apparent last weekend on our place, I figure this weekend is as good a time as any to spend all day in the stand. Will get out for 1/2 hour or so to stretch my legs, walk to the truck and make a sandwich and fill the cooler, but otherwise will be in my tower all day. Might bring a radio to listen to a ball game or a book I haven't finished, but mostly just enjoying the quiet and observing. Probably do it one day the following weekend too.

Only hunted with one other guy who does this sometimes. Most are back at camp by 9:00-9:30 and don't get back out until 3:00-4:00 or even later.

Anyone else going to give it a try?

Yep, it can. Why I got a good comfortable office chair in my stand. Hell, I sit in one most all day in my office during the week. Why can't I do it in the blind? wink

I will say that it can pay off. I haven't done it myself but I HAVE seen camera photos of the big ones moving in the middle of the day. Got a feeling you'd probably see nothing 99 times out of 100 that you do it but for those persistent enough there is always that one time..the last time I saw photos like that was last Thursday when it got down to 17 on my camera temp readings that morning. That day I had big bucks on camera morning, afternoon, and evening and turkeys to boot...there won't be a reading anywhere near that this weekend... frown

Do it sometimes and usually fullmoon in November is a good time to do this. I did it a lot more when hunting public land in Mississippi. Saw a lot of deer spooked by the ones that were not in the field between 9am and 3pm, plus the normalactivity that can occur then

Yes I have many times and it makes for a long day. I hunted outside of Evant for right at 10 years. On most Saturday mornings especially on opening day you would hear a rifle shot every 5 to 10 minutes from daylight on up to 9:30 or so. It got to the point where I could recognize the 300 Winchester Mag going off to the south along with the woo-mp year after year. grin

What I learned over time was that during the rut the bucks would start moving around 11am after the hunters went in. I had my feeder near a thick stand of cedars and two different doe groups would lay up in the area during the day. You could sit there and watch them all day but I left them alone. And throughout the day you would see bucks come in and out checking the does. You could also tell when there were bucks bedding up in the thick cedars for the does would lay out in the more open part of the woodlot. They wouldn't bed with the bucks.

Right now I would hunt all day for your likely to see a shooter buck at any time.

Good luck.

JT

We're northwest of Evant kind of between there and Shive.

It is a good time of year to try it and it can pay off big time. I have done it several times breaking just long enough to stretch the legs and eat a sandwich.

I have all day sits scheduled for Friday thru Monday. This is outside my norm, but this weekend looks like the perfect setup for a bigun.

I usually will if it's raining/sprinklin... that's big deer moving weather.

Love to do it post rut in Jan when it's cool and overcast. I'll setup camp in a big double on a 4-way and feed each direction and pack in a small ice chest, pillow, blanket, magazines, gear etc. I'll get out about noon to go to camp, pack a few 'wiches and a sixer and head back out by 1:00. I've done up to 12 hrs in a day many times. If it gets slow I take a quick nap until it picks back up. I've had some 50+ deer days this way.

No matter how comfortable the chair is it's unusual for me to sit in a blind for 2 hours. I can't even imagine all day.

There are several times each season I hunt all day though.

I probably will for most of the day at least next weekend when I get back out.

Depends if I'm bow hunting or gun hunting.

In a box, just bring books, magazines, Copenhagen, beer, and food. I'd be good all day

I have a hard time sitting in a stand for an hour much less all day. That sounds like hell.

I think the mistake alot of guys make, at least that I see, is that they don't make themselves comfortable Enough in the stand to sit for long periods. I can't count how many times I've taken people hunting when it's cold and they wear jeans and a windbreaker and take a rifle and some shells. After 2 hrs they are cold and bored.

I've been laughed at for all of the crap (gun, spot scope, binos, backpack, ice chest, blanket, handheld tv, etc) I tote to the stand and multiple layers of clothing, but I stay warm and occupied, and that means I will sit a long time without wanting to get out.

While I am out there all day it doesn't mean I am in the same stand all that time. Sometimes I will still hunt stand to stand during the day. other times I will jsut stay put in one spot, depending on what I am seeing and how I feel. Tomorrow and Friday for sure I will have 880 acres to myself do have little room to roam. Will do some rattling along the way most likely, jsut try to have a fun few days away from the MetroMess

I follow the same pattern as kmon1, sometimes the deer come to you and other times you gotta go to the deer! Typically you have to be in the woods to kill one though, not at camp!
