What is the fine for shooting a buck under the 13 inch mark? My buddy shot one and when he took it to the processor they gave him a ticket so I was just wondering what happens next? Is it just a fine or are other things involved such as future hunting privileges?
Thanks

Um... when your buddy pays his fine (or whatever they do to him), I think that will make YOU our resident expert...

I really don't think any of us know the answer so keep us posted on what happens with him.

I think there is a fine + restitution for the deer. Not 100% on that though

$25-500 plus possible civil restitution.

X2

Also, Won't swear to it but I believe I read that if you screwed up and killed one just shy of 13" and called it into the GW yourself that the fine is $25, plus I'm sure you probably lose the deer BUT I'd have to see that in writing again to be sure.

Also, a processor, or a taxidermist, has a legal duty to contact a game warden if they see something illegal about the game, whether that be deer or whatever. If a deer is under the 13" spread he better not be taken to get processed or mounted. Also, if you tag a legal buck with an antlerless tag, that would also get a call to the GW, etc., etc..

After 5yrs of ar bull crap i killed a buck this year with a whoping 13 and a eighth in. spread. The biologists measured him 3 times and said, well its legal! then asked what would i have done if it wasnt 13in. and i told him we wouldnt be having this conversation and i wouldnt be here! AR rules and bag limits suck!

Makes one wonder how many bucks are left in the field because they didn't measure 13 inches.

More than TPWD will admit to. I understand the premise of the system, and it works in a lot of areas, but where it doesn't it needs revision and our officials are remiss in their responsibility there.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

there are more bucks with broken main beams than ever showing up since AR went in.

I will say where I hunt the ARs have helped for sure seeing more bucks in higher age classes now than pre AR.

Over paying a fine for a law that I did not vote for or has any merit to begin with you bet I would.

If i shot a deer that wasnt legal but thought it was when i shot it i would never leave a deer to rot. Personally i think its a bigger crime to waste a bunch of venison! If i shot it i would eat it!

Fortunately, it has tons of merit.

And which specific game laws did you vote on?

On this we can agree. If I shoot a deer that doesn't meet ARs, I'm not going to just turn myself in and pay the fine. Warden still has to catch me. That said, I'm cleaning the deer and will do a euro on the skull myself. If I get busted transporting it back to my house, I knew the risk and I will pay the price.

Good example of why my wife and I take the whole place to ourselves and haven't added hunters to our leases even though we have room.

All TPWD regulations will be followed or you're gone.
We aint gonna risk losing our lease over someone else's poor judgement.
If a mistake happens and you do the right thing there isn't any problem lease wise that can't be worked out.
It's the GW job to decide the legal course of action.
It's all in the contract.

My neighbor makes more money than me and has a nicer truck. I wanted his truck so I stole it. When I got arrested I told the officer that I could not be thrown in jail because I never voted for the law against stealing other people's property.

Just trying to put your amazing statement into context.

OR My neighbor keeps shooting my deer. I want TPWD to pass a law that he can't do that anymore.........

A Little closer to context
