As some of you know, my son and I were going to hunt Nebraska this season and we had a trip planned for the 1st of Oct. However, due to several scheduling conflicts, among other things, we were forced to move the trip back to what should've been this past weekend and headed home tomorrow morning. Well, after a long talk (about the weather forecast) with my buddy in Nebraska last week and some heavy decisions (namely prayers), I decided this weekend was not the time so we stayed home. After watching the weather yesterday and today up there, I sure am glad that "something" told me to call off the trip. There's ice on the ground from Oklahoma all the way to Nebraska and even further North. Funny how things work themselves out huh?

At this point, with the holidays approaching fast and many other plans to keep, I doubt we'll make the trip up this year. I think the reality of the situation is slowly sinking in with Cody (my son) that it's not gonna happen this year. It pains me to think about the let down he feels about the situation but I know that he's got a good mind and heart and he'd rather look forward to hunting next year than dwell on the strikeout this year.

This last comment probably belongs in the "kids say the darndest things" post in the OFF-TOPIC section but I'm putting it here with the rest of my story....
Tonight before he went to bed, he came to me and said, "Dad, I know that you really wanted to go to Nebraska this weekend and I did too but I'd rather be safe at home with my family than hunting and wondering if we can get home."

Call me soft but I teared up and could only muster "I love you son."

I know what you mean about the weahter in Nebraska. I got up there to hunt for 10 days on Dec 1st and I cut it short and came home on Friday because the weather was going to be bad starting on Sat. It is not much fun driving on ice.

I was hunting in Oklahoma this weekend and cut my trip short so as to have a safe drive home. As far as your son being disappointed, there will be other trips. He sounds like a wonderful young man, sure to make a great father himself one day. Good work JBCooper!!!!

JB,
Sorry to hear about that, I will stick something in the today's mail for Cody, putting the same in for Dalton, wish them Merry Christmas for me. It is not Nebraska but better than nothing, just make sure they don't take them to school.
