the boy should do a shoulder mount with the arrow stuck in the buck. That would make for an interesting mount to say the least.

I bet the bow hunter wasn't aiming at its head. Looks like A crossbow bolt..if that is the case the smartarse probably was aiming for its head....

I don’t think it is. I would have never thought of shooting one in the head with an arrow. I can see how it could happen on accident though. I was shooting a doe with a gun once and she swatted her head at a bug or something on her side at the same time. The bullet went through here head and both lungs. DRT for sure.

looking at the angle, it looks like the hunter may have been trying to make a good shot behind the right shoulder and the buck decided to rub that shoulder with his horn about the time the arrow was let loose. Look around your fence lines and see if you see any tree stands or elevated platforms/tripods. Because it looks like it was a shot from somewhere elevated for sure. And that looks like an old scud missle aluminum arrow, my uncle still hunts with those same arrows. This wasn't in Kimble county was it.

I think the point he is trying to illustrate is not how the shot occurred, but rather the result of it. Nonetheless, congrats to the rifle hunter on being able to resolve this deer's misfortune and utilize it's meat. Nicely put.

Deer wasn't on our place, just a buddies that hunts close. We aren't looking for the owner of the arrow, because there is no telling what the story behind it is. As JTheole said, just showing that every head shot is not a kill shot and the result of a poor shot placement can be torture to the animal.

That is a gamegetter II with 5" plastic vanes and a not a crossbow nock. Typical walmart arrow which speaks volumes.

Sad for sure. Wonder how long he walked around like that. Good call taking hime cause i would think he would have died from infection. I would never attempt a neck or head shot with a bow. Could be unintenual but he would have to be a horrible shot and isn't ready to bow hunt.

Not a head shot but a neck shot. One of the reason I do not personally like head or neck shots. I saw this doe on Saturday morning and she had this wound, it was very close to some vital areas on here neck. A hunter wounded a doe on the Saturday before and 4 guys looked for about 2 hours for the doe and could not find her. I did not ask where shot placement was, but as soon as she stepped out I knew.

I hate to see injuries like that. I can't believe that it missed the arteries and esophagus. Pretty sure I told you about a guy on our lease that shot a buck in the neck with a bow. The hole looked pretty much like that. The deer was shot two weeks later by another hunter. Keep an eye on her

The nock on the shaft almost looks like a crossbow bolt nock. Not a good idea no matter what. But I bet it was not an intentional head shot. At least I hope it wasn't... negative! Def. a compound bow! Glad the youth hunter shot that thing. Poor deer!

The shot placement on the deer underneath the one with the arrow doesn't look right either.

headshot with a bow probably isn't the best choice in the world..BUT, that head has a lot of time to move in the wrong place when shooting at other areas of them.

Sh$t just some times happens. My hunting buddy shot at a nice 8 point a couple of weeks and at the same time he released the deer swung his head to scratch. Luckily he hit it in the antler and did not wound it. The broadhead broke and the arrow glanced off. So yea maybe was not supposed to be a head shot.
