I have a cull buck on my property that has a strange abnormality. On his left, he is a standard 4 (and a decent one too). On the right however, he is about a two inch growth coming from his bud that actually looks like a super miniature replica of his left side (with 4 points and all). Obviously bad genetics! My question is, since I am in an antler restriction county, I cannot take this poor quality animal out of the gene pool, correct?. He doesnt qualify as a spike and he obviously is "inside the ears" do to his Nemo left side.

I hate it when you shoot a buck and he runs into a tree trying to get away and breaks off an antler.Sucks even worse when you cant find the one that broke off.

Are you sure he wasnt injured at sometime last year.
It's not how you fall, It's how you get up.

no injury that i can see. anywhere. wasnt on cameras last year. regular visitor this year. everything looks great about this deer except this Mini rack. Very healthy mature buck. Entire main beam on deformed side is discolored (dark yellow brown) and about 3 inches of total main beam. two "points" off this about 1/4 inch long.

It is not genetic. It is either an injury in velvet this summer while growing or he has a leg injury of some sort. Post some pics of him if you have them.

So you dnt think any of the points on the mini side is over an inch long??? he could be leagal then

Never cull based on bad side always cull based on good side.
The largest native wt killed in Texas had a spike on one side at either 4.5 or 5.5

I agree. Probably a pedicle injury early in the growing stage. Even if he stays like that forever, his genetics are fine. Might give him a chance to live out the rest of his life as a breeder.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

Since we all know a young buck (spike) has no potential (<---sarcasm) and the infinite wisdom of AR's thinks it's a good idea to takem out while they're young by targeting spikes, if he was ever a spike he's dead before his second birthday anyway.
