I am a big fan. Have owned a Handi rifle in 25-06, Encore in 308, still have a Contender carbine and pistol in 7-30 waters, and Ruger #1 in 30-06. I will soon be picking up another handi in 7-08 for the kids.

If I may make a projectile recommendation? The H&R handi's tend to love the 52gr SMK's pushed by just about anything. Mine loved Varget and AA2015 of all things. Very first stand at calling coyotes I called and killed a triple, closest at 45yds, longest at 225yds. You can learn to be quick with a single shot.

Anyone have experience with the CZ Brno Effect? Looks like a nice copy of a blaser/merkel....for about 4k cheaper...

I might just have to add another CZ to my line up, sometime down the road.

I bought an Encore a couple of years ago, and I like the heck out of it. Still haven't bought a second barrel for it because i can't decide which caliber I want next.

The single shot aspect doesn't bother me one bit. Make the first one count and kick yourself in the butt if you don't. If then, a follow-up is not all that slow if you keep an extra round handy.

Followup hasn't really been an issue for me when hunting with a singleshot except when trying to kill as many hogs from a group as possible. But then bolt action wasn't enough to make me real happy in that respect one morning. Didn't do bad, killed 5 but could have had at least 2 more.

Only with Hogs showing up have I wished for more firepower when hunting with a single shot.

Have not used anything other than a Ruger No.1 since 1972. My problem now is trying to figure which one to take out. Leaving tomorrow for New Mexico mule deer and will have my .25-06 AH.

I'm looking at those but if I could get a CZ Effect full stock I would buy one of those. Not as pricey but just as good looking

doubledrop14 MIGHT be using an Encore 7-08 for his blind gun this year. He loaded up some TSX's yesterday and we'll go shoot them tomorrow. So far, I haven't been impressed with this gun. Love the way it looks and handles, but it hasn't shot worth a poop with premium factory ammo. We'll see how it does with handloads. If it turn out well, I may purchase one as well. One shot it typically all I get anyways and reloading the encore is simple enough that I believe you could get off a 2nd shot if you were quick about it.

I had something funny happen on my buddy's ranch. I had my muzzleloader with me one morning, loaded it on the tailgate of the truck before I went into the field. I got into a 14 ft. high blind on an interior fenceline. I wasn't in it bu 30 minutes and then saw a deer making his way down the fence. He was 400 yards out and headed my way. He jumped the fence and kept coming. Muzz. has neon sights on it, no scope. I decided I would let him keep walking and when he turned to go a diff. direction, I would bust him. Hit him from 235 yards and hit his front shoulder joint breaking his leg. He ran about 40 yards and stopped, and that is when I realized that I didn't have room inside the blind to reload. The roof was too low and it was less than 4' x 4' wide. I stuck it out the window and loaded it outside and then finished the deer off. Never took muzz. to that stand again.
