When predator hunting at night do you guys run the spot light the whole time or only when you think there is one in range?

The whole time. You can't see them if the lights not on.

Touche' ive been calling then listening for them in the grass or tree line then trying to spot light them. Ill try the vise versa next time out and hopefully with better results.

The whole time. You can't see them if the lights not on. x2. Plus they can't see you if your behind the light. Your spotlight is your camo.

There is still more to this equation than leaving it on the whole time though. When running the light the entire stand you have to pan the light as fast as possible with still being able to spot the eyes! If an animal pops up as you are shining in the opposite direction the animal can see you, and your truck's(if hunting from a rig) sillhouette. To be able to do this the most effectively go out with a buddy and stand back as he pans the light in circles, you will be able to see what I mean and you will be more effective. Also, red filter or white light, you should invest money in dimmer! If you shine an animal full blast with either light you increase the chances of spooking an animal. If you run the light at a lower level and spot the animal with it, you can always turn the light's power up to full blast as soon as he is committed.
Running the light constantly and utilizing a dimmer has increased our successful calls by overwhelming proporions. Good luck and good hunting! Take care, Jared

I have always called for a couple minutes, sat a minute, then hit the lights. Since I use a white light I don't want to scare everything off. You just have to be ready to shoot as soon as you see those eyes.
Texas is better.

If you dont have a red lense, i found a way that works pretty good. cover the bottom have of the light covered up hold the light just high enough so the main part of the bea doesnt hit their eyes. But if you have a red lense keep it going and when you see eyes dont take it off.

Keep it on and keep it moving until you get eyes, then hold it still and verify it is or isn't a target.
