I prefer to do a dorsal incision on a full mount. My situation is a bit different as the animals are brought in whole not field dressed. This gives me the freedom to skin them as I want. As a one man show I feel its easier to mount if done with a dorsal. Things with shorter hair(like the impala from hell I mounted this week) generally do better with a ventral incision as its harder to hide the seam.
