Seems a little late to be a whitetail fawn.

Going to have to go with late drop, but only because of the mother.

100% whitetail. Odocoielus virginianus (whitetail) and Axis axis (Axis) don't mix

Whitetail. Axis have a dark almost black stripe on its back. Even the little ones.

I’m not beyond admitting when I wrong but look at the way it is built. It’s defiantly very young. Then look at the size of it. That’s not a whitetail fawn. Look at the color the way the red comes up onto its head and the pattern of the spots going down the back of the neck. Then look at how thick its legs are compared to its body size. Whitetail fawns have little spindly legs this thing is built like a Clydesdale compared to other whitetails. I have seen fawns born late and I have seen fawns keep their spots longer than they should but I don’t believe this is the case.

See, I look at that picture and think the exact opposite.

It's definitely built way more like a whitetail than an axis (obviously you disagree).

The only question in my mind is the timing, but given the whitetail doe right next to it, it's fairly conclusively just a late drop in my opinion.

I understand but as far as I know there is an Axis doe right off the camera.

You caught my error, thanks for repeating it. Thats why I shouldn't drink and type during the Rangers let down. hammer My mom and wife are both school teachers so that would make them proud. Let's see if I can correct it. nuts

It's amazing how similar they both look at the early months.

Axis and WT dont interbreed. I have a WT fawn that looks exactly the same running around. An Axis fawn would have a solid black stripe down the back and most axis fawns have a furry forehead. Have both running around the ranch right now.
Another note is that there are occasions of Axis and Red deer interbreeding, Id like to see that.

Chupadeer? Suprised it took this long...........

I have to wear sunglasses into the woods, because the deer would recognize me, an just surrender with their hooves up.
