I want an honest reply. For all of you that hunt, do YOU really like the taste of venison, wt at that not axis etc.
Are the deer you are harvesting going to good use or is it just for the horns? Myself and family we can eat it......is it T bones no it isn't. If I chicken fry it or such they can eat it.
In the last few yrs I have made it more into breakfast, summer sausage etc. I don't fall into that group of "best meat in the world class" but no, it doesn't go to waste. You?

I normally shoot and give my deer to a gentleman that it is the primary meat for his family.... I take a small portion for sausage and chicken fry....
I am the only one that will eat it. My wife has gotten spoiled on Oryx and Elk...
Spend time with the ones you love. Time is not guaranteed.

Well at least it is not going to waste. I have given it to my kin before(like every yr). Mom and dad love it, more then we do. Then again my mom could make a turd taste good.
Burgers are also Ok with wt, but I cut them with beef or pork for flavor and fat. I don't crave wt meat, it's just Ok to me, not much more.

I try to take 1 deer every 2 or 3 years for my freezer. The other years I hunt for antlers. This year does happen to be a "meat" year as my freezer is empty. I will wait till gun season to take a doe if I don't get a buck earlier though. I hate to take some live bait walking around before the rut.

I typically put 3 deer in my freezer. I LOVE chicken fried backstrap!! I also grill venison burger, make spaghetti. So I really enjoy it. I'm no millionaire so if I didn't enjoy eating it I couldn't justify the thousands I spend on deer season. I've never eaten exotics so I can't say.. One day I'll find out.

Venison is all we eat, we hardly ever buy beef, maybe a good steak every once in awhile. We eat at least 3 to 4 deer a year.

It REALLY depends on how it's cooked. There's times I get it right and it's as good as any meat to me, other times it's just ok. (I make a lot of meatloaf with it.)
I'm single and don't do much cookin at home so it mostly goes back to the lease with me and I eat it there.
I really prefer hog meat, now that we have them it's a little harder for me to eat up all the venison.

I do like it bit its second to beef.
I make a lot of jerky, saugage. I keep some ground and give a lot away.
Wife prefers venison in chilli and other ground dishes due to less grease.

it is all in the preparation of the meat. Like anything you harvest from the wild. I brine everything from a WT that is not sausage. Even ground. It pulls the blood out of the meat. From there it is amazing IMO. I will brine the back strap then stuff it with cream cheese, japs, and wrap it in bacon. then grill. It is amazing. even to my liberal hippie friends. My key is brine.

I usually put 2 deer in my freezer every year. I find family or friends to take the rest. I like to make it into burgers, backstraps become steaks, tenderloins whole. Also make some chorizo for breakfast sausage and chili.

We will eat 5 deer a year. We process our own. We don't buy beef unless we are out of venison. I got lucky, the wife grew up in a hunting family. My boys don't know the difference.

7mag,
I usually make carne guisada out of venison and I can never make enough as everyone goes for seconds or third servings, give that a try if you all like TexMex cooking. The other one is chili meat style very good in winter time, not that we have much of one lol.

We eat it. Took my wife and daughter just a couple of times trying it, now they really like it. Wife wants me to refill the freezer again this year. 5 of those one dollar bullets turns real expensive at the meat house. But it sure is good eating all year. Just had steaks again last night from it.

I save the backstraps for grilling/steaks and grind the rest of the deer meat for jerky. I can/do make 2-3 deer a year into jerky. There is always a bag in the fridge.
Link sausage, breakfast sausage, etc is also a great way to eat venison, but cost's more than I want to spend.

Venison is all we eat, we hardly ever buy beef, maybe a good steak every once in awhile. We eat at least 3 to 4 deer a year. This is us. Any recipe that calls for ground beef, we substitue ground venison. I was rasied on it. It was a real treat to have "hamburger" hamburgers when I was a kid.

I'm not gonna lie - venison tastes like crap to me. So with that said, I process ALL of my deer into jerky, snack sticks and summer sausage. That's the only way I can eat it. Yes, it's expensive to process, but it NEVER goes to waste.

We have harvest mandates, especially on does. Consequently I peronally kill more than I can eat. My wife won't eat it. So I donate some to Hunters for the Hungry, I keep at least two for myself and two for a friend.
I love it. I'll have roughly a 1/4 of my deer meat cut and packaged in steaks for chicken fry or I'll cube it and use it in chili or carne guisada. The other 3/4's of it is ground and either mixed with bacon to make bacon-burger or mixed with pork and made into jalapeno-cheese sausage. I eat every bit of it over the course of a year and love it.

If I didn't eat the meat I wouldn't even hunt deer.
I love it not because of the taste, but because I take pride in getting the meat myself. I honestly believe the reason why some hunters don't care for it is because they are not cooking it right.
We use it for taco meat, hamburger helper, steaks, fajitas, dang near everything.

If I didn't eat the meat I wouldn't even hunt deer. Really? I mean REALLY? That's a pretty strong statement. Do you hunt just for survival and sustenance?
