I was trying to get a group together to discuss hunting and share pics of game in the Cross Cut or May area. Anybody hunt in these areas?
We have a couple of places, one around Cross Cut on the Pecan Bayou and another west of May. Have not taken anything this year except hogs.
Here is a pic of a deer that was taken last year. And another one that showed up later on the game cam. Please share your pics and experiences. I hunt off of 114 and we also have a place by the state park deer numbers seem real low. My grand father has hunted this area for 20 plus years and he said that this was the worse he has ever seen it. Shot out maybe why is brown county a 5 deer county and Callahan is a 3??????????

Do you have any pics or game cam that show some deer in this area? I just started hunting this area in the last year and I'm curious as to what we will be seeing?

We hunt west of Grosvenor, right on the Brown/Coleman line. I have heard from several people that Brown county is overhunted and shot all to pieces. That's bull! I'll admit that movement has been pretty slow up to this point but that's primarily because of the abundance of browse and acorns. The deer simply don't have to move much and they are not the least bit interested in corn. Here are a few pics. No monsters except for the 10 which is a really poor game cam pic from last year. The funky looking 6 is the only deer we taken off of the place so far this year but we try to be pretty picky.

You say bs but even the packin plant in cross plains has been talking about it.When you have been there 20 plus years then you could talk about deer numbers.I will give you that coleman deer numbers are still high as my cousin hunts in talpa western coleman county and there are a lot of deer there.

I don't doubt that the numbers are down! There may not even be as many as there has been in the past. I'm just saying that the deer are there and in good numbers, they just aren't gonna be as easy to cross paths with this year.

Brown county has always had more deer in the south and west parts of the county according to the old timers.

southern coleman county is good, up here on the homeplace in the northeastern corner is fair, could be better but there still is some browse out there & they arent apt to move JUST yet but the weird weather has alot to do with that also....saturday morning/afternoon at Hall's in Coleman they had at least 20 something & we were looking at 3, took in 1 & like 3 more came in while we were waiting

we have GOOD bucks on our place they are still just outsmarting us...for now

Maggie, I've been meaning to ask you what you thought about the rut in our neck of the woods. I figure they have already pretty much hit the peak, but we sure didn't see much activity. I really thought/(hoped) that rutting activity would bring 'em out of hiding a little bit, but it didn't seem to make much difference down our way.

May check and see if there are any new wheat fields around that have pulled your deer off of you.

in my part(northeastern corner) its so/so on the rut & deer activity...just havnt seen them yet...once more browse is gone they will rely on the feeders more & even the bucks will head out more...i still think the best are moving either at night or mid-day

Break out the spotlights and do a game survey that should tell you how many deer you have in your area.
