Doing to be hit or miss... Numbers are down but a good outfitter will know where the birds have higher concentrations

I have access to a couple of sections in Hartley Cty/Moore Cty and the bird numbers are poor. Everything I've seen have been old birds. Very few youngsters...it's going to be thin.

I was up there last week for 3 days and saw 6 birds total.

I was doing some work in the Texline area about 2 months ago. Stopped and talked to TX-DOT worker on the highway between Dalhart and Texline. He's lived in that area for 28 years and said that he has seen fewer pheasant around than in years past. Opening weekend will be spotty at best.
No bad days hunting

I normally guide pheasant hunts up here in Dalhart. Numbers are looking bad enough I doubt i'll book any hunts this season. Unless the corn gets harvested and I start seeing more birds soon. But the CRP and grass corners look pretty bad so I just don't think pheasant hunting is going to be very good.
