I have been thinking a lot about the best way to get to and from my stand without disturbing the wildlife. Any examples or experiences would be helpful.

Walk slowly and quietly. Sometimes I drive to a certain area then walk the rest of the way (300-500yds or more). If I shoot something I can either call and have somebody come get me and the animal or I can walk back and get a vehicle.
I could probably just drive the ranch truck around, park it and hunt from that if I want a doe or hog. I prefer to walk in and out though.

I walk the last half mile. Probably wouldn't hurt anything to drive closer than that but that's what I'm used to doing. If the weather is horrible I will sometimes park right under my box blind and it never seems to cause any problems with the deer.

ive always walked at a normal and "nonthreatening" speed. I firmly believe deer react to a slow approach, such as a stalking cat or yote. Ive seen a bobcat run right next to a group of does and they just looked then started eating again.

ATV right up to bee brush right behind my blind, walk 8 feet and climb in.....all about 1 hour before the feeder goes off in the morning, stay all day until dark or a kill.

I walk the last half mile. I'll even go further and challenge anyone to take a day or two off and hunt in the middle of the week, making it a point to spend at least 20 minutes walking the final distance to your stand. There's a good chance you'll be amazed at the increased activity you'll see around your stand or feeder.

I drive right up to my stand and park behind a group of cedars and it has never been a problem. I tried the walking bit and it did not make any difference at all.

The lease hunters hardly ever come during the week so I think the deer feel more secure during the week. If I walk from the cabin or bunkhouse it can take me up to an hour to get to my stand. It makes for some long walks in the dark though.

I am attempting a new approach this season, much different than years past. Last year opening weekend, my stand was an interstate highway for young bucks and does. This dried up substantially as the season wore on. My blind was on the ground and extremely open (whoever designed it was more interested in the shooting angles than concealment). I honestly don't think one deer that past my stand last year didn't know I was there, hence my suspicion of why the traffic slowed.
This year I designed a stand that will get me up off the ground, around 14', and conceal my profile better. I have also invested in the cheapest game camera that money can buy, to make sure there are deer in the area, guess what....they are coming in from behind my stand and walking away from me as I face forward. I have also given this some thought and think this might be the best case scenario.

I get a piggy back ride to and from the stand! It really saves my energy.

A lot of it depends on how far the deer are coming from, I have places where we walk at least a 1/4 of a mile and some places where I'm dropped off in a truck. If the bedding areas are far off it's not a big problem, if they are close by then walking with no lights is the best way. Every situation is different. I like to be in the stand at least an hour before sunrise.

if you can get someone to drop you off in the lease truck you should be golden. deer could give a hoot about engine noise but someone walking is nother thing. if you can't get dropped off walk in 1-2 hours before you normally get in your blind.

I have always walked to my stand at a minimum of half a mile most of the time further. I think the further you walk the better off you are unless someone can drop you off at your stand and drive away.
Hunting during the week is awesome. Typically see twice as many deer and have the entire woods to yourself.

I can see deer cross about 200 yards out my front door, but I don't hunt those cuz there are houses beyond that, thru the woods.
Behind the house, they are about 300 yards away. Used to come right up to the pear trees near the house before I put the kennels in. So, that's how close the ones around here seem to tolerate 'commotion.' Of course, I just walk to my stand out back, but I wish I had the piggyback ride TAT's got.
I've seen them browsing on the thicket along the west side of the south pasture. I've entered the pasture about 200 yards away, had 'em stop, watch me, then go back to browsing when it was obvious I was headed to the east side of the pasture. Sometimes they're still there when I head back out. Doubt they'll be that comfortable in a few more weeks, though.

The squirrels in my back yard act much the same way. But the ones I see in the woods that have never watched me before run like mad. I've heard a lot of guys talk about deer that would frequent their stand. But I've never had anyone say they've seen a nice buck do it.

I parked a few hundred yards from my stand the couple days near some huge oak trees. Came walking back to the truck to see deer within 30 yards of it lol said hell I couldn't have just hunted from the truck! I seen on a hunting show the other day. They said it was better to drive to you stand whether you park or someone drops you off, rather than sneaking thru the woods. I know the deer are used to seeing my pickup all the time.

A lot of the time I think driving in does not adversly affect hunting as much as walking in does, especially on places where deer are accustom to the trucks

I typically park and walk in about 1/2 mile. #1 I hunt along and don't have someone who can drop me off. #2 I have deer coming from every direction and there are bedding areas close by so I do not chance messing up a hunt because I park too close.

Jetpack.
Seriously though, just walk. Especially before light, deer are used to hearing things moving all around them. As someone mentioned, do not walk with a calculated rhythm - that sounds the "predator" alarm.

I just drive the Jeep right up to the blind and park behind a stand of oak and cedars. Not a problem.

I just drive up in the truck I fill feeders with.lol
Wind direction makes a difference. If the wind is not in our favor, it is better to drive up early than to leave a scent trail.

I drive to 5-600m from the stand. I re-apply Scent Killer and eat some mints before starting the walk in. And in 2 weeks I'll start to use a drag line as I walk in also.
But I put my bow and pack in the tree the night before when we put out our bait, atleast up here. It doesn't sound like a good idea to do that once I move down, nor will I have to worry about only having 2 gallons bait out on the days I hunt

I think this also depends on whether you are bow or rifle hunting. I don't think you could park your truck under your bow stand and expect to see much...
