A field point is the target tip used for practice, not legal for deer hunting.

<<<Not a bowhunter, what's a field point? A small tip used for practicing and target shooting. No blades, just a small pointed tip that is the same diameter of the arrow and less than an inch long

Could the field point wound have been a bullet hole? Like a smaller less expansive caliber or possible FMJ? Just a thought, because I can't see a field point killing a deer unless it was a perfect heart shot.

There are lots of idiots out there that give us serious bow hunters a bad name, three days ago on the news some other idiot shot two donkeys in Saginaw Texas with a bow. I sure would like to find someone doing that.

Call the game warden. Did you find the whole arrow? They might be able to match it to the other arrows in a hunter's quiver if they just happened to be checking the surrounding properties.

I'd bet kids. My 8 and 9 yr olds have a re-curve that I allow them to shoot with out me, they have a compound that I supervise. A few months back I caught them trying to shoot birds and squirrels with the re-curve, given the opportunity the 8 year old would try and shoot a deer, the deer would have to be hard of hearing and lost its sense of smell, and be blind to allow him to get close enough to to shoot him however.

Agree that there's a good chance it was some over-eager kid playing with his new bow and the buck just happened to walk out.
Really, really sucks though.
