There was an auodad @ the YO Ranch Sale that had 33"x35" horns that sold for $4,500 live sale. Unbelievable! I sold to 31" hunts for $1,900 and that thought that was high.

What is typical cost of an aoudad hunt that size??????

That's ridiculous.....I would not pay anywhere near that much for any Aoudad. The fact people are willing to pay that much just blows my mind...

I don't have a problem paying $2,500 for a nice trophy ram over 30".....but the prices some people are getting right now for those things is crazy.

More power to them. Never had a problem with someone getting the most money they can for their animals.

I agree.....I have nothing against people for getting that. I just can't believe anyone is paying that.

There was a time when Axis, Blackbuck, Fallow, Aoudad, and Sika were always the exact same price (roughly $1,500 or so)....

Now Axis and Blackbuck are usually around the same....with Fallow and Aoudad being much higher....and Sika being cheaper (unless they are larger Sika like Dybowski or Manchurian). I just find it interesting.

mulie mike seems to have some great aoudad hunts in that $2k range and I think his are in the ball park. For $1900 I don't think your too high for a 31".

We have two rams that we got over two years ago and they were 26" for $950 each. They grow their horn length very slow so I would imagine they are not 30" rams yet. This was just to see how they do on our terrain and we have found out that we don't really like them that much for our place. smile

I don't really go by what the YO auction prices are to sell my hunts.

There is more to a hunt than what the animals costs that you are taking. Lot of factors dictate what some one is going to pay to hunt on a particular ranch. On the original post it could also be that the ranch who bought this ram was starting a breeding program and needed a breeder. He might have had tremendous mass or the ideal shape that they were looking for. Some folks just get caught up in the bidding war and can't keep their hands down when it comes to auction bidding. Seen it way to many times that someone goes to a sale and said they would not buy anything and when they left, they had spent some serious money the sale.

It's a whole different game from the YO sale to Raz.

If you ever want to sell trophy animals, this is the location to do it. They had a pair of mature Bongo with top dollar @ $18,850 each and got PO'd @ $20,000 each.

Interesting thought, Oryx bring $750, Addax bring $1,700 and Dama Gazelle bring $3,900. They are all on the same list, yet the price range is greater between the species. I guess this is driven solely on supply?

I think some of the bidders get too LIT by the time something like that comes up for bid.

It is also driven by the fact that you will see and might know who is selling what animal and the reputation they have. It also is from the fact that the person buying a certain breeding pair that day might just want to start with those animals to start a herd since they are harder to find species sometimes. It might also be he is wanting brag about how much he spent those animals he bought when showing them to his buddies. I have seen some folks just buy things to buy them at the YO sale and really did not need them. I have also seen ranches put animals in the sale knowing that someone or several people are wanting that species hoping it will start a bidding war.

Was this a recent sale or the one back in May? I was at the one in May and I remember there were top dollar bids, but those were some spectacular animals too!

The crazy thing about that 4,500 dollar Auodad is, is that a broker bought him.

He must of had a buyer. All the more power to him. Good animals bring good money. That's the way it should be. No different that a Whitetail bringing $20,000

It's the fall sale. 'Shooters' are up, and I bet 'stockers' were down. It's usually the reverse in the spring with some exceptions.

BB & Fallow have been in pretty strong demand the last several years. Axis, aoudad, and sika have been a bit depressed with the exception of whoppers.

IMO, the quality of animals is MUCH better at the YO than RAZ, but it's not where I'd go to pick up commons. Definately where I'd go to sell an exceptional trophy though.
