Good day Gentleman,

If you had the chance to hunt 5 South African Plains Game animals,
which would it be?

I'm not talking about Sable, Roan or any of the high end animals. Just the regulars. Whether it will be your first safari, or not, what will your trophy list be?

Best Regards

For me, hunting fair chase for indigenous free range (i.e., no high fence) for the following:

Nyala
Kudu (Cape or Southern)
Bushbuck
Reedbuck (common or mtn.)
Vaal Rhebok

Bontebok would be a nice addition.

Kudu, Eland, Zebra, Impala and Wildebeest and Warthog

I know it's six, but the warthog I figure would be an easy add. This would be a great African safari in my opinion!

Just got back yesterday with a gemsbok, kudu, red hartebeest, steenbok, blue wildebeest. It was a fantastic trip but the actual travel was a killer coming back, 45 hrs on a plane or in airport waiting on a plane plus trip to the house from DFW.

Thats a beaut !

Seems like the Gemsbok is pretty high on everybody's list. I'm not even mentioning the Kudu since everyone wants one of those.

I'm off tomorrow leaving for New Zealand. Will be doing a bit of marketing and also have a two day hunt for a Tahr.
Will post some pics if everything works out, but flight is going to be a killer.

Keep 'em coming
Best Regards

Hi Brian,
I am really pleased someone nominated the Bushbuck. One of my, if not my ultimate favourite.

Best Regards

Marius, I was shocked as it wasn't up yet. I have tried twice with no luck, will be a priority animal on my next trip.
Thanks!
Brian

Marius and Brian must have skimmed the thread or have me on ignore as Bushbuck was number three on my list! grin

Marius,

Out of curiosity, your websight states you have access to various concessions which covers over 50,000 acres. How small is the smallest, and how large is the largest?

Are the concessions you hunt free-range (i.e., no high fence)??

Smallest concession is 5000 acres with the largest one being 24000 acres. Concession of 24 000 acres is all low fenced.
Most concessions is high fenced. I can guarentee that all hunting is fair chase. Should you hunt on the 5000 acre concession and feel that it is not fair chase, I will sponsor your entire safari for free, thats how confidfent I am. I do not condone canned hunting and I regard all of the game on my concessions as "free range" They are completely self sustaining,so there are no food plots or anything like that. They are not constricted by the fences in anyway, due to the terrain. They have to fend for themselves against all predators lik Jackal, Lynx and Leopoard
You can get an idea of the terrain from the lodge photos on the website. All mountainous with a bit of plains.

Brian, and yet one of my clients this year missed 3 different rams in 7 days. He was not too worried since he said it gave him an excuse to come back. Another client who was not looking for a buchbuck, had a 15" Cape Bushbuck stand in the open at 70 yds away. Murphy rings a bell.

But dont feel too bad about not getting one in your previous two trips. You see, they are so sly that we cant even pick them up in the forum...

Cheers fellas,
I'm off to get myself a Tahr

Good luck on your Tahr hunt, I will be there in July chasing mine along with a Stag, then off to Australia, looking forward to that hunt and then booking for his operation.
