This aint the land of fruits and nuts. This is Texas, we don't take too kindly to anti-gun granola hippies.

800 yards on only paper, .308 wins IMO. 800 yards on small game, 30.06 wins. 800 yards on medium game or punching paper further than 800y yards, 300 win mag wins.

Debatable camp Perry has been one more than once after .308win was introduced. I feel like its more that a shooter can handle the added recoil since it takes several grains more powder. The 06 can run right next to .308 no problems and even surpass it now thanks to the heavy high BC bullets being made in .30 cal now thanks to the added case capacity.

From what I understand, its really a powder burn time question more than performance. If you are using a barrel 22" or longer go with the 30.06. Shorter barrels use 308.

Both good very good points here. I want my next build to be a 18" .308, but you could push the 208 A-Max really well compared to the .308

I would have to vote 308 because you'll save weight if that matters to you, cheaper Lapua brass, less powder used/recoil. Plus lots of load data and knowledge on the 308. Not to say say there isn't a ton of brass/knowledge/data for the 06, just more for the 308.

+1 long action for longer barrel, short action if your going short barrel.

Or just make everyone mad and go .270 and start rolling your own.
Thats what I did and it WILL hold it's own at long distance...not saying it has better BC, it's just what works for me.
