Be sure to bust a few of them open. About 80% of the ones around here look alright - stunted a little - but are almost hollow.

LOL, I have a red oak in my front yard. Watered lawn all summer. Kids have picked up bags of acorns for me. Gotta love it!

Too lazy to google it, is there much nutritional value to acorns? Seems like they are kinda "fatty" like a peanut. We hauled them to Terrell county one year and the poor deer were so unaware of what they were the acorns just rotted.

They do several things for the deer if they are not rotted. The tannin acid kills the parasites in their intestinal tracts and helps them rebuild muscle and weight. There is plenty of protein in them as well.

I hope there's none at our place. Last year I couldn't pay a deer to eat our corn.
