Maybe a stupid question. I'll be sitting in a pop-up blind with the crossbow. Do I leave it cocked and ready to go (bolt not loaded of course) or [censored] it just before I take the shot. Didn't know if it is bad on them to leave in the ready position for an amount of time...

I don't X bow hunt, but I know many that do, have it ready to go, if a deer comes out close enough to shoot it, getting the x bow ready to shoot will probably alert the deer.

Yes, you leave it cocked the entire time, it will not hurt anything.

Be sure you have a bolt with a field tip to shoot in the ground to decock and keep from any mishaps

Have the bolt in it ready to go. Deer can hear very slight sounds. Just be sure to keep the saftey on until time to shoot.

Crossbow safety 101
Don't load the bow until you are in the stand, and by load I mean place the bolt/arrow onto the bow only when you are settled in and keep the safety on until ready to shoot.
If you can't pull back the string to load up the crossbow in your elevated stand, you can do it on the ground and carefully raise it to the stand using a bow rope, but make sure the safety is on, raising it toward you with the stock drawn toward you and bow end facing down.
Same goes for getting out of your stand you remove the Bolt/arrow first and once out of the stand and on solid ground you place a practice arrow back into the crossbow, release the safety and fire down at the ground or target to unload the crossbow. In an elevated stand you can do this before you lower your bow down before climbing down.
Keep your fingers away from the rail when you shoot, and make sure your limbs won't hit the blind or any solid object when you fire, as you will get a nice punch in the mouth losing some teeth, or a black eye, but you won't do it again.

Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

the rope you use to pull the string back with also lets you uncock it with out having to shoot it, just pull up on one side of the rope with both hooks on the string and shoot it and let the string down easy, and yes have it ready to shoot in the blind.
