Ok- Buddy kills this huge non typical near Hagerman in Grayson county this Thanksgiving weekend. It was taken fair chase with a bow (of course), 10 yds, ran 50 yds, fell over dead. Difficult to score but a trusted taxidermist scores it green at 225 1/8. Deer was aged at 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 tops.

Obviously this a trophy deer and a once in a lifetime buck. We have all hunted all are lives but no one has any experience with a deer this size. The deer needs to be scored by the various organizations and assocations. My buddy has had a lot of advice with regards of what to do with scoring and I suppose there are publicity and even financial aspects of taking a deer of this size. Any suggestions?

Wow, why didn't he do a full head mount? That is a wall hanger!

We have enough youth. How about a fountain of "smart"?

He can still do a shoulder mount if he capped it. He probably just cut the top of the head so he could hold on to the rack. I know I would until the Taxi needed the horns!

Give John True a call. He is an official scorer for the Texas Big Game Awards program and he may have some advice for you. His office is located near downtown Dallas. He scored one of my bucks a few years ago.

Get him in touch with the manafactures of his gear he used. Ammo(Federal, Winchester ect), weapon(rifle, bow ect) Let them know that he achieved this milestone with THEIR equipment and gear. He will more then likely need to have it mounted then they will parade it around the hunting circles. He will get a generous donation from the comapnies as well as the notority. Careful on the paperwork he sings for contracts. He may need an attorney to assist him.

That is one incredible buck! Surely he is doing a shoulder mount. You can take the horns off and keep until the taxidermist needs them if it was caped correctly. Hell, you can take horns from 20 years ago and put them on a shoulder mount if you have a cape. Like said above, contact the gear companies and see what happens.

He is mounting it, that is all you need. He will prolly keep it and show it off and have it scored several times before it is mounted.

i would't go that far, the deer is a monster but he isn't THAT kinda buck.

if it were me, i would't have it listed in boone and crockett or pope and young because you must give the ranch stated, and there are people who look for ranches based on the types of entries per place. people with alot of money.

unless its a new bow recored, he isn't going to get much as far as sponsorships, maybe a lifetime supply of tinks 69 for a promo.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Take it to Ken Witt at Arlington Bowhunter's World

He's on both B&C and P&Y scoring panel, nobody else is or ever has been.

Also you don't have to give the ranch name for B&C or P&Y as far as I know.

He'd also give you advice on what to do with the deer, I would think.

I forgot the address but give him a call at 817-478-5990

He scored the Amish buck this summer...

Oh yea great buck
