I like my semi-auto Ruger. Lots of choices out there for you

Good luck up

It all depends on what you prefer. I had a Ruger MKIII Target that was super accurate, but I didn't really enjoy shooting it. I sold it and bought a Single Six and even though it's not as accurate, I love shooting it.

What are you going to do with the pistol?

I have a Walther P22 that has probably 6000 rounds through it. I have never had a problem with it. If you shoot full size semi autos then it is a great little practice pistol.

My dad has a Browning Buckmark. It is very solidly built and accurate as can be. It would be a good choice as well.

Thanks for the input so far fellas. Im probably just going to be shooting beer cans and small targets in the pasture...nothing special, cheap and affordable to shoot.

the longer vthe barrel the easier to be accurate, browning or ruger would be my pick.
i have a p22 cool little gun hard to be accurate with it though

I have a Sig Moquito with a threaded barrel, which is the main reason why I got the Sig. I like mine weel enough. I really wanted a Ruger MK3, but could ot find one threaded from the factory.

I feel like I've shot every 22 semi auto and a handful of 22 revolvers. I still prefer the semi autos. They're all fun and don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

Final thoughts/personal opinions:
- the Rugers and Browning Buckmarks seem to be the most accurate
- I like the feel of the Sig the most in my hand. but then again I thnk I have big hands and tend to like larger grips.
- I love the size of the Walther. Probably the smallest 22 auto. My girlfriend has one and I like to walk around with it in my pocket
- regardless of what anyone says, I think all 22 semis have misfeed and jam problems, especially on the front end. My Sig did. But after about 200 rounds it happens very seldomly now. I just think it's inherient in the 22's.

I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

I haven't shot the Walther, but have shot the Browning. I have the Mark III with the 7" barrel. As was said above, very accurate. IMO, the only difference between the Browning and the Ruger is the feel of the gun itself. I like the Ruger, but my uncle prefers the Browning.

Ruger MKII Govt. Slabside 6 7/8" barrel. Search around for one & you won't regret it.

Greetings,
In the past, I've had revolvers and semis.
Had a nice Ruger Mk with tapered barrel for many years which I called my Ruger Luger.
Some bastage stole it and I almost cried.
I replaced it with a Blued Ruger Military Match and added a BSquare no machining required clamp on mount and a 30mm reddot.
Accurate as heck but hard to carry with the heavy with bull barrel and reddot - you can still use the iron sights - barely.
I remove the BSquare mount from time to time and carry it in a nylon holster and almost holds zero when the reddot is reinstalled.
Sweet gun that just works.

Cheers,

I would sell you a Browning Buckmark reasonable if you were closer. Accurate and fun to shoot. But I haven't in a couple years. Hate to carry any extra weight anymore. Lazy I guess. I would recommend them though.

Alright, so it sounds like the Buckmark or the Ruger is the way to go on the semi auto...I actually just went to academy and held both of them and good gosh they feel great!!

Do you guys have any input on .22 revolvers? Are there some that are just junk that I should stay away from?

hopefully this isn't too late. First, the Buckmark is a great choice, as is the Ruger, whatever fits you better. A good starter revolver might be a heritage arms rough rider. It is a single action, Academy runs sales on them, and they shoot both 22 LR and 22 Mag. I have 3, 2 for my kids and we all love them.

I will always recommend a Ruger Bearcat for people wanting a .22 single-action and a Smith & Wesson 617 for people wanting a double-action.

I would give up all over handguns before parting with my S&W 617. It is built like a tank and deadly accurate.

The Bearcat is considered a "mini Single-Six" but frankly it fits like a glove in my big hand. It carries well.

I got a s&w 317 airweight beginning of the year and haven't regretted it once. I have the 3 inch with adjustable sights and love it. Shoots snake shot no prob, and anything else for that matter. Weighs 12 whole ounces loaded so I carry it when a heavier piece might stay at camp. Expensive but worth it in my book.

When I finally get one, I'm going to put my cash into an ATI/GSG 1911 .22 lr.
