Would you bow hunt on 12 acres? It is very heavily wooded and is on a corner with 2 county roads. I have never bow hunted before and would like to start but didn't want to have to get permission and cross property lines on every deer that was shot. Thanks for any input.

I hunt on 40 acres. 20 on one side of the road 20 on the other. We put one popup and one feeder right in the midfle of the place. Dont bother me a bit. If you hit them right you could hunt on 2 acres

I'd bow hunt 12 acres all day....

If that's what I had to hunt, I would do it in a heart beat. Face it, the reality is even if you have 100 acres your feeder sits within 30 yards of your stand. Kill one and post the pics.

I used to bow hunt 11 acres on my grandfathers land, never had a problem with a deer crossing the property line.

Here's food for thought, if you did the math its physically impossible to hunt more than 1 Acre at a time. Your bow wont shoot that far accurately

I live on 5 1/2 acres and we got deer coming into a corn pile back in the woods we plan to do a little bow hunting back there granted we have bigger places to hunt but behind the house will be very convenient.

I bow hunt 7 acres in san angelo and I love it. If you have a feeder something to attract them they will come in. 12 or 1200 acres they will come.

We have plenty of does coming in with 2 young bucks. What location do ya'll normal target when shooting at deer on small acreage and how far do they usually travel. Thanks

Talk to the land owners around you. There is a guy behind our camp on 10 acres. If he shoots something and suspects that is has crossed properties lines, he comes to the cabin. He always asks before he crosses (BTW there is no fence), so we don't mind. Few people are going to mind you retrieving game that crosses a property line, as long as you are respectful. Of course, there are exceptions...I'd like to believe they are few.

I agree with the above - just let the neighbors know that you are hunting and ask them ahead of time if they will mind if you track on their property for a shot animal (still call them before you cross boundaries).
You might even pick up some more property to hunt!

Absolutely. Just make sure you don't take long shots that could increase the chances of a bad hit and LONG tracking job.
Made that mistake before. Ended up having to ask permission of a couple of landowners.
Also, If you've never bow hunted, make sure you know how to tune a bow and shoot your broad heads before you go hunting to verify accuracy.

This is more thought for after the shot and deer leaving the property. Not whether or not I can hunt on 12 acres. We all know you CAN hunt on 12 acres, so basically what your asking is will the deer run outside the 12 acres? ....depends on the shot

Set up as far from any boundary as possible. If the deer generally come from one direction you might consider the possibility of them running back to where they came from.
Basically look at how far you want to allow the deer to run in each direction. I know this wasn't the question but definitely something to consider.
As far as shot placement, anything along the spine will drop them most times. However, I wouldn't aim for the spine. You could end up hitting the deer high but below the spine which might result in a poor blood trail.
If it were me I'd just try to limit my shots to close range (25 yds or less and make sure the deer is perfectly broadside when you shoot. This will give you a high chance of making a good shot and a quick kill. If you do have to track for a ways you'll probably have a better trail since the arrow will have had a better chance to pass all the way through.
There's no sure thing in bow hunting. Just take all the preventative measures that you can and try to make a good clean shot every time.
I was a self taught bow hunter and sure made some mistakes. Most of them were either from shooting to far, not having my bow tuned properly or getting nervous and doing something different than I did when practicing.
Make sure your bow is well tuned and shoot your broad heads alot to develop some confidence with them.

Thanks for the information. We have the feeder setup in the center of the property with a couple of cut trails through the thick brush. I am just wanting to get started using a bow due to the excitement and the challenge.

It is VERY exiting. I've killed some big bucks with a gun and not gotten buck fever too badly but when a shooter buck walks out at 25 yds. with a bow in hand....we'll you'll see.
