Never try to draw back with teh animal facing you or broadside, youll get busted 99% of the time. wait till they are facing away and hold until you have a good shot.

Aim small and aim low. Remember not all success is measured by what rides home in the back of the truck!

Keep practicing and go shoot some 3D targets if you can, it will build up your confidence. Also, I just started last year and I shot several WT does in early season to get comfortable.

Other than that, just get in the stand early, stay late and sit still. You're gona love it!

Like was stated above, concentrate on the lower 1/3 of the deer's body. Pick a hair to aim at not just an area. Take your time and just let your bow fall forward naturally after the shot. Have a good time and good luck!

As fxhunter said aim small. Don't aim at the deer----aim at a spot on the deer. If there are antlers, size him up first, then forget about the antlers. Last year was my first year to bow hunt. I had trouble hiting deer where I wanted to, but hit a turkey dead on. Don't make since, but it was fun.

It's the time spent in God's creation with family and friends making memories that counts.

The most important thing I could tell you is to keep your head still. Shoot just like you would when your practicing. Too many times I have seen firsts time bow hunters pull there head when they release their arrow trying to see where the arrow is going. Keep your head still. I hope that make since. It's easier to dimestrate. But above all that, have fun. It's awesome to have them animals so close. That's the best part about it.

take everyones advise and its alot harder than shooting a rifle, the more time you get with your bow in the stand the more success you will have. I messed up around 7 times befor i shot a deer with my bow.

There are alot of things but this is the #1 thing. Getting drawn on a whitetail is not an easy task and where most people lose their opportunity. Believe me,I speak from experience. smile You will be amazed at how quiet the woods are in October compared to rifle season.Have fun!

Make sure you can hold your draw for an extended period of time. If your bow is too heavy to do that lighten it up. Trust me I drew last year when I had a chance and held it for over 3 minutes before I had a chance to shoot. I was twiching so bad by them I just let it down instead of trying to force the shot.

Lot of great advice above. I have not hunted in about 8 yrs with a a bow but a couple of things I did in practice helped me also. One was to practice with the same clothes on I would be hunting in so that I could see if it effect my shooting and how noisy the clothing was. The other thing was to practice at the height I would be shooting from and how I would be shooting-standing or sitting. Have fun and don't press for the shot it will happen.

Hunt until you can't see any more (provided it still legal hunting hours)! It's real easy to bail out early if you haven't seen anything or if you got busted 30 minutes earlier. I missed on the opportunity to take what could have been my biggest buck because I unknocked my arrow 2 minutes early! You never know when Mr. BIG will pop out of the tree line! Stick with it! There is nothing like taking your first whitetail with a bow!
