Good looking pup! Start clicker training right away for sit, down, come. Make him sit as in pics while you get his food ready then only when you release him can he eat.

Lots of attention, let him have fun. The first year is all about fun and exposure. After that you can polish up the obedience.

Exercise, exercise, exercise. Make sure he has planty to keep him occupied or he will find something to do and that is not always good news. Obedience will come if you are consistent with him.

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

DO NOT teach him sit until AFTER he knows "whoa". It just makes it easier while teaching whoa because sometimes they will feel pressure and just sit instead of whoaing. Avoid the confusion and wait on teaching sit. Lots of different training methods out there so do the research first and then decide how you want to train him and be careful about dog training advice you see on forums. Research it before you teach it. Good Looking pup!

congrats on your new pup. Shorthairs are very intelligent, biddable dogs and they need to be challenged both physically and mentally on a daily basis. they love to learn and they love their families, but if they get bored, they WILL find a way to entertain themselves... as in, can get very mischievous and destructive.
just have fun with him for the first 6 months or so with some basic obedience. during this time, read some books and watch some videos and come up with a plan on how you are going to go about training him. list all your commands and make sure everyone in your family knows them and is consistent in how they handle to dog. make everything fun and positive and try to train towards a goal and not train IN bad habits. it's a heck of a lot easier to "teach" a dog something than to "unteach" one!
good luck and keep us posted on the progress.
