We used to go west of there toward Chimney Rock. Go up the road along the Piedra river to the end of the road and pack in from there. That was years ago but there were some good bulls there. Not a lot of deer.

We used to backpack in the area every year. Have seen a few Elk around the Piedra. More remote areas such as up in the forrest around Turkey Creek Lake and Upper Four Mile lake I used to see tons of elk.

I am in durango right now and the bulls are bugling pretty good. We got snowed on today and the tops of the mountains are covered in snow. They might be low in acouple of weeks. We are finding them right below tree line right now. Goodluck and let us know how you do!

Harris and buckles lake isn't bad..but you need to be in really good shape... 9500-10500ft.

A friend of mine used to go here every year. Got some good bulls from that area as well. They went to the cattle guard at the end of the road and used horses from there.

We camped at the end of the road. Then we would go up the different trails from there and overnight camp and hunt.Kept the main camp at the bottom with hay and feed for the horses. I will look around for some of the old pictures I have.
