My wife hunts and fishes with me all the time. She has shot Javi, Coons, Pigs, her biggest a 350lb'r. She has been after me to get her a bobcat. So I bought her a new Remington model 7 synthetic in .223 and put a Leupold 4.5-14x40 scope on it. I'll go to the range and zero it next week and then look at getting her a bobcat hunt.

Give us a call, we would be more than happy to help. We locate animals at night using thermal imaging scopes and can put her in range for a shot. We have more than 15 years of experience as a outfitter and are located here in central Texas. Our ranches run from Waco to Coolidge. www.hotguidedhunts.net

What caliber did she shoot all the other game with?
I have killed several bobcats and found that 223 is hard the pelt if you intend to mount it. I shot my last one with a 308 and a handload using 165 gr Corlokt spire point bullet, and the entrance hole was the diameter of the bullet and exited the size of a quarter. The shot was 80 yards.

Thanks for the info retrieverman. I have a safe full of rifles, shotguns, and pistols. Plenty to pick from. She wanted the .223 so that was what I bought her.

Only bobcat I ever shot was with my 30/06. It was definately an ugly exit wound and the hide was ruined.

The 223 will work well, just be aware that typical varmint rounds like the Vmax may make a nasty exit! If you really want to save the hide try some of the remington core lokt soft points.
