I am in the market for a new toy. It will be used mainly for plinking, small game, etc.
What are the pros and cons of these calibers?
In particular which is more accurate and what is the difference in price for the ammo? What about the effective range of the two?
Thanks

the 17 is much more accurate. the 22 has more knock down power but the 17 will go further and put smaller groups on the board

Where's the best place to buy a .17 rifle and ammo price wise?

What brands rifles and ammo are better and why?

i have a marlin 17 bolt actoin bull barrel w/a detacable clip. both gun and cheap bushnell scope cost me less than 350 bucks.

gun shoots amazing, can put all 5 shots in a 1/2in group at 100 yards. had to get a trigger and float job done but after that every thing is great

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

academy has some pretty cheap 17's. id go for a marlin or savage. both shoot good just personal preference and wallet size really

i have a marlin that i got at academy i have shot just about any 17 ammo i can find. i think the hornady shoots the best. even with it sighten in with hornady i can swith to other ammo and shoot within a about an inch or so of my hornady group at 100yds. wally world sells winchester and cci and academy sells remington i know for sure they might get other brands in from time to time. definitely one of my favorite guns to shoot. it is usually riding right next to my leg when i am driving to or from hunting and would probably go anywhere i went hunting to include out of state/country.
