Okay. I leave for my first Elk hunt in two days!!!! I cant get my Montec fixed blades to group for the life of me!!! I am thinking about scraping them and going with the Rage Broad Heads so I wont have the issue of the fixed blades heads not hitting where my field points are. What are your thoughts on the Rage Broad Heads for Elk? Three or two blade Rage? I am shooting a Bowtech Assassin set at about 67 pounds. 100 grain head on the Blue Streak 350 Carbon Express Arrows. Shooting around 295 FPS if that helps in the decision making process...

I would go with 3 blade for an elk. Goodluck and let us know how you do! Where are you going?

Lots of outfitters will not allow expandable's on elk. If hunting with an outfitter, better call him and make sure he will let you hunt with the Rage's.

Lots of people love them, lots of people hate them. I am sure they would work but I don't care for expandable broadheads.

Bad idea. Rage heads aren't ideal for stalking. Try slick tricks they fly like field points, and they don't have any moving parts.

To add to the comments above. I shoot rage on most of my deer but I leave them at home and bring my montecs when I go elk hunting every year. I am sure a bowtech assassin at 67# will penetrate though.

Forgot that point, a outfitter I used said he does allow any rage's on his hunts anymore.

I love my Rage heads too but if you are concerned then i 2nd slick tricks. Chouse said it right about stalking with rages. I am a die hard rage fan but I wont stalk with them either.

And if you decide to shott Rage then go with 2 blade. DG said no penetration because the 3 blades dont penetrate nearly as well as the 2 blades. Best of luck to you.

I am going to unit 53 (Red River). Going on a DIY so I wont have to worry about a guide telling me I cant use the Rage Broad Heads, but still obviously dont want to use them if all I am going to do is wound an Elk and not be able to recover it.

What makes the Slick Tricks fly any better than the Montecs that I am shooting now?

I hear this time after time, all the broad heads mentioned here are fine, or they would not still be in business. If the bow is not tuned right fixed blade broad head will not fly true; they are more critical in flight that a field tip or expandable.
I would not EVER use an expandable on an elk.

As everyone knows I'm a Muzzy fan.

I love the Slicks they are the best but if I was shooting an Elk I would go with a COC head. Probably the same head Bjankowski uses that thing is like 600gr I think LOL (Kidding) about the only place Rage belong in the the field is back at camp in the trash. That is my MHO.

Try thunderheads. My dad killed a full grown bull nilgai last year with one. Super tough broadhead.

I have shot thunderheads for a long time. Never really had any problems with them. Just a simple broadhead. Never got into the Rage broadheads, but I don't like expandables anyhow. JMO

Rage Titaniums ... Maybe, but I have a heard of few storys of expandables breaking on Rib Cages and not pentating.

Use what you want. I shoot 2 blade rage and will continue to do so until I see a problem , I haven't had a problem so far.
