well yesterday i had a hog come in and when i put the red spot light on him he bolted, lucky it was 3/4 moon, and 5 minutes later he came back and i nailed him. I was wondering why he was scared of the red light, i thought that the red light didnt scare the animals? is it because it just a diffrent hog that used to being hunted or somthing else? has anyone had any experience with the red lights working or not? Should i try and get a green lense cover ? do they work?

I use green (so I can see better), don't know that it makes any difference to the hogs, but I do know they are scared by "dancing" shadows. Bring the light down on them slow and don't move it around.

yea, i tried that yesterday and he bolted, it make because where i was hunting there is alot of cars driving by and they might be not be used to lights being shinned on them. I might just have to hunt when the moon is out instead.

Just like bear said. Start the light above your target and slowly move it down on em. I also use green and haven't spooked one yet.

i tried moving the light slow and the hog didnt like that. Also the owner of the land has been trying to shoot the hogs and everytime he spot lights them the haul butt. im thinking they were used to the light being a harm to them and they would run naturaly. Ill see next time i go out there in a week or so.

If you are hunting over bait, try a moonshine hog light they are cheap and work great it dont take the hogs long to adapt to the light (3 days max). If you are not hunting in a set location like the folks above said slowly coming down on the hogs works well most of the time but if they are spooky hogs there aint much you can do. In my experience if a lot of hogs come in they are less sensitive to the light than if a lone hog comes in.

red light should work as posted above, green works well as well it's intensity that gets em spooked. Get in in a haze enough to shoot direct light may spoil your hunt. If you get big hog chances are she will bolt, she did not get big by an accident. Keep in mind hogs are quite intelligent.

a permanently mounted light with a very wide circumference that run's all night under a feeder is your best bet. they may be shy at first but after a while won't even notice.
as stated above moving shadows and instant changes can freak them out. the above takes away from all those things happening. if you want it done right checkout texasboars.com he builds some excellent lights

I use an original set of the TexasBoars feeder lights in red (3 separate adjustable LED's) with the dusk to dawn switch on it. You can spread the beams out, or point all three LED's in a tight spot and really light it up. Hogs, deer, coon, 'dillos, they all come and go without a 2nd thought. Lately the wind has been spooking my hogs way more than anything else. I'm not a huge fan of green. Not that it doesn't work, but I find it harder on my eyes than the red lights. Can't look through my NV scope for too long for the same reason. Kevin makes some awesome new lights........

I have used a red light mounted over a corn pile and a green Laser Genetics light, and both have worked great for me. I haven't gotten any reaction by the hogs to either light.

Ill be headed out to my place in a few day to see if i can get another hog or 2 A couple of years ago, I bought a solar powered motion sensor security light and covered the lens with some red transparent plastic from Hobby Lobby. To test it, I set it up over my game camera and corn pile, and from the reactions shown in the pictures, the hogs (and deer) were totally unbothered by the red light coming on. As I said in another post, I am currently using a Laser Genetics (green flashlight), and it doesn't generate any adverse reactions either.

If hogs can't see red and can't see green that means they can't see about 67% of the visible light spectrum and the only color they can see is blue. They might be color blind and can't tell the difference between red and green but that is a lot different than the color not being visible.
That's why I use a white light and have had great success.
