If he looks good to you then pull the trigger! Nice buck, and if your happy with it then thats all that matters
Sometimes I wonder if it will get to the point you bring an attorney with you out hunting.

I think he's 4.5, if u shoot that age go ahead. As far as the brow tine I'd say he has a shot at being a ten next year, not real sure but I've never seen a single browtine as a genetic tray. But I'm no expert

What did the browtine look like on that side last year when the deer was a 9 pointer? I have seen the single browtine as a genetic trait, but if I wasn't sure I wouldn't shoot him for that reason. The few that I have seen with that trait had a very weak browtine on the other side.
Since the browtine that he does have is fairly solid and you can see the start of the other side, I would assume the other one is broken or was damaged during growth.

Inside a high fence? Yes let it walk. No high fence? Practice not looking upset while you watch your neighbor load the buck you passed. Hes young and full of potential no doubt about it.

I realize he's still in velvet but his bases look like a dandy. The question is: if you haven't punched a tag and it's the last day of the season, what does your gut tell you?

I'd take him. Kind of what I was thinking. Unless he's feeding out of the same trough that starving buck from the other thread is then he's got way too much of a pot-gut to be young IMO.

Looks 4.5 to me. If I saw him on my place I believe I'd take him, nice buck. Looks like the brow started on that side, but was possibly damaged early on.
Deep brisket, big rear end. His tarsals will tell the story come November.

Id say 4.5yrs too.. If you know he wont get shot by someone else Id give him one more year... I dont plan on shooting anything this year unless its a huge monster as there was hardly any rain and antler conditions will not show full potential this year. If he had a browtine lastyear but not this year, he may sprout it next year... but who knows.. he could also decline.. If he is a tropy to you and you have not shot bigger, then take him. hes definately mature.. short tines may hurt his score, but he has nice beams. Good Luck!

I agree with Skinner. Take the buck this season if you are hunting a low fence or else you run the risk of someone else hanging him on their wall. Sucks to do all the feeding for someone else to take your deer. If you like him, shoot him.

It's to hard to age a deer in the summer to anything other then over under 4.5 unless you have a long history on him
Personally deer looks mature but not mature enough to take on any of our places.
I don't worry about my neighbors taking deer if they do they do, if they don't then he lives another year.
