ill be in the market soon for a new bow. have not shot one in over 20 years and there are so many now that i donteven know where to start.
instead of asking which bow to get... can you guys fill me in on what to look for?
draw weight? draw length? sites? rest? quiver? brands? let off? stabilizer?
do most of you use a quiver? i took mine off when i was a teenager becuase it was a crappy plastic thing and seems like it always got tangled in stuff when hiking through brush, stalking etc... is there a better alternative?
if i buy a used one what should i look for? how can you tell the arms are not worn out? or check for draw weight? tension cracks?
i know i should go and try some out but i want to at least know the basics or i will just feel like the dude at the shop is trying to rip me off and sell me a pos or a more expensive bow than necessary. mostly will be hunting hogs and deer.
thanks fellas

Coonsaw,
Like anything, it might be helpful to know your budget, and what to look for is still going to be a personal preference.
Draw weight – 50 to 60 or get a 60 to 70 are good weights IMO
Draw length – go get measured
Sights – I picked up a 5 pin sight from Truglo; has a blacklight on it, which I really like. But again, this is a personal thing as is most of these items.
Rest - I like capture rest; shooting a whisker biscuit today. Another inexpensive one is the Octane Hostage, but if you want a nice one check out QAD or Ripcord.
Quiver – to many to mention. I like one that attaches to the bow, but I can remove once in the stand.
Let Off – shooting an old bow today with 65%. My next bow will have 80% let off.
Stabilizer – no opinions on this one. Just picked up a limbsaver from Academy
Bows to check out:
1. Bowtech Assassin 2. Diamond Outlaw 3. Mission Endeavor 4. PSE Stinger
On the high end
1. Mission Z7 2. Bowtech Invasion 3. Bowtech 350 or 340 4. Diamond Dead Eye 5. PSE Bowmadness
You’ll find each of these bows are going to feel different when you hold them, and you’ll notice a difference in how they feel when you draw. You’ll also want to listen as you shoot each one and see what seems quite to your taste. I was looking at the Z7, but don’t know if I want to lay that kind of cash out for a bow, so I’m looking at the Endeavor. However, I checked one out that was fully rigged with rest, sights, etc and dang it was heavier then my bow I’m shooting now. It made me go re-look at the Bowtech and Diamond. Completely unsure which bow I’m going to get at this point. Go check out the bows at archery shops and see which you like. Then decide if the archery shop you’re dealing with is the one you want to support. Do they deserve your business? If so, let them help you pick out the rest of the items for your bow. Set a budget and see what they can do for you. If you’re just getting back in, you’ve got a lot to buy, so don’t be concerned by letting them know you’ve got a budget. Goodluck.

I agree with BoBo, Jerry will sure take care of you, and if you haven't shot in 20 years, he's the man you need. It is sure worth the drive.
