The only place close, that I have hunted is the Black Kettle but it's been a few years. I have not heard any recent reports for that area except like everywhere else, hot & dry. Call a biologist in the area & ask them, I have talked to a few different ones in OK & they have always been very helpful. Just a thought.

One of the guys at work, his family has a ranch out by Woodward and he says it has been try out there like the panhandle of Texas and Oklahoma. Does not look good.

Mesonet station shows 7.4" this year at Woodward, which is decent for that area. but, at Arnett, which is pretty close, only 4.1". Probably going to be hit and miss.

Is there public land in Woodward? Looks like that area has good habitat for blues.

Wait a couple of days and the Okla. State wildlife Dept. will put out their August survey. Usually out in early Sept and a follow up later in early November.

Never seen blues in this area but further west in the panhandle you will find them, Texas and Cimmaron counties. Public lands are Fern Cooper and Ft. Supply lake (across the road from Fern Cooper). Fern Cooper and Packsaddle WMAs are the Okla. St. Wildlife Dept. Quail projects working in conjunction with the Rolling Plains project in Tx. Packsaddle is just a few miles north of Black Kettle. If your dog is soft footed bring boots or bicycle inner tubes, lots of sand burrs in all of them.

Chet, I have family in Texhoma, a little farther north and west of Woodward, but the whole panhandle of Texas and Oklahoma are the driest they have seen in years. My uncle is an avid bird hunter (goes like every day) and he services the sprinkler systems, so he's out in the field all over the area - very few birds, no cover. Most of the farmers are abandoning the south side of their crop circles, too much hot wind - nothing will grow, even with the irrigation. Doesn't look very good up there this year.

Well, just like west Texas this really sucks. Looks like I'll have to go further north.
